ISO - Intel LGA775 CPU at 75.00 USD

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a place where I can get a Duo 2 or Quad core dirt cheap? I've been eBaying and searching newegg's bargain bin for the last couple of days... I don't want to spend more than 75.00 and that includes shipping. I'm currently using a P4 Prescott 3.2, so pretty much anything in the Duo 2 range will be a huge plus.

The only way I can extend the 75 dollar budget is if I can get a quad core, which normally retails at 199 for around 100. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Intel like the high prices, you'd be better off going to AMD for better price performance but i imagine you're just after a marginal upgrade unfortunately best you'll get is bottom line pentium dual core E5200/5300 or C2D E7200/500. The 5200 and 5300 are in your price range at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-072-_-Product and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-074-_-Product

if you have an older motherboard maybe want to check compatibility though.

Found this E6300 too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819116091

Any of those processors except for the first one are what you're looking for (The Dual Core Celerons/Pentiums are still Conroe's/Wolfdale's, just w/ a smaller cache), however make sure you check compatibility. If you're running a P4, you will most likely need to update your BIOS to use the new Core 2's if they are compatible.

My motherboard is compatible with Core 2 Duo/Quad and I already updated my bios, I appreciate the responses. I want Duo 2 or Quad at rock bottom prices. I've done newegg using the LGA775 filter, I let a E6750 get away from me on eBay at 67.50 with free shipping. I bid 65.00. :\

Overall, I'm hoping for Duo 2 or above. On the AMD topic, switching to an AMD motherboard would be more than an upgrade at this point. I would have to switch motherboards and everything. Personally, I don't mind USED or re-certified items. So if anyone has one they're trying to get rid of, let me know.

There's my motherboard if you're curious. I was running an Intel 915PBL, but when I had a hard drive crash I switched motherboards unsure what the problem was and now I don't feel like switching back. I feel like the Intel 915PBL may have been a slight bit better, but the P5N-E has SLI which the Intel board does not.

Pay attention to http://www.slickdeals.net/ then. Occasionally, Microcenter and Frys have insane deals (usually in the form of CPU+Motherboard combos). If you sell off the motherboard, then you usually got the CPU for cheap.

Recently, Fry's had an E8400 + Gigayte P43 motherboard for only $120 AR. The motherboard alone is $80 on Newegg, so if I sold it for $60, then I basically have a $168 CPU for only $60

Thank you very much, I will keep that in mind. I actually never thought to do that, that is a decent idea. 120 AR? what's AR? Australian? ::google::

LOL, my bad. After Rebate. Common Slickdeals lingo.

Ahh, I hate rebates unless they have electronic filing. Otherwise, I feel like they take far too long. I don't know how rebates really work in terms of, why can't you just give me money off it now!! It would still be something to consider depending on the savings, and I feel like $60 is worth the hassle. Most recently I was playing Dragon Age origins, and it was the first time I really feel like my computer was totally taking something away from the experience. Usually lowered graphics don't bother me, but in this case, it was awful. I watched videos of the game in awe that my computer needs to suck less.
