Does anyone know how to run Oblivion in a Window?

If you feel adventurous you may also want to try some config file editing in Oblivion.ini

Toggle Full Screen/Windowed mode - Toggles between the full screen and windowed display modes

Variable: bFull Screen

Values: 0 = Windowed Mode, 1= Full Screen

Additionally, the windowed mode can be altered with these parameters:

iSize W=

iSize H=

These set the size of the game window. Defaults are the resolution you have selected in the game's video settings (e.g. 1024x768).

iLocation X=

iLocation Y=

These alter the game window's position on the screen (default is 0 in both, which makes the window appear in the top-left corner). So, for example, if you want the window to be at the center of your screen, you'll have to make a small calculation. The formula for this is:

Your desktop resolution minus your game resolution and the resulting combination is divided by two.

For example:

1280x1024-640x480=640x480

640x480/2=320x240

So typing 320 to the x coordinate and 240 to the Y coordinate results in the game window being displayed at the center of your screen.

You could maybe run it from within the window of a window of a virtual machine window.

Any game depending on DirectX or OpenGL won't run in any virtual machine, not even the latest VirtualBox.

The emulated graphics hardware simply isn't capable of it. VBox emulates a custom video adapter, which I haven't found any specs for, though it does support 32 bit color. Virtual PC emulates an S3 Trio 32/64 vidcard, which only supports 16 bit color.

I once tried running Thief 2 The Metal Age in VirtualBox when Sun came out with DirectX/OpenGL support but it couldn't even handle a 10 year old game.

There's no way in hell Oblivion will run.

As for running it in a window, good luck with that. I once tried DXwind on the original Fallout and it wouldn't work, so it probably won't work for a much more demanding game like Oblivion.

There apparently is a way to run it in a window, but it's much more demanding of your hardware, and from what I've read, 800x600 is the ideal resolution for it.

I tried the games "Windowed" mode, but it doesn't fully "window".

I need it like a firefox window.. if at all possible.

Anyone know if this is possible?

It doesn't fully window? what does that mean?

Like a firefox window? isn't a firefox window like any other window? explain?

There is some software out there which claims to run any DirectX game in Windowed mode.

Also, I'm fairly sure Oblivions Windowed Mode is fixed, and you're not allowed to move it around or move focus from it without alt+tabbing. Not sure how that relates to Firefox though.

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
