Gnome Window Positions

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know how I can keep windows from opening in the top left corner of my screen? Such as the terminal, and especially Pidgin conversation windows. It is driving me crazy. I know it was "designed" this way, but my OCD is keeping me from enjoying this feature.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Oh and I am using Ubuntu 9.10 - forgot to add that earlier.

Well, I decided to ditch Ubuntu for now. I am back on Windows 7. This is where I need to be for the new semester of college, anyways.

Most likely scenario is me using Ubuntu alongside Windows for now. This issue is quite annoying, though. There is no way I consider this a feature. Perhaps I have OCD, but even on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, I like my windows to be centered on the screen. I can ALT+TAB quite quickly. You would be amazed!

If you are using Compiz, you can go to:

System --> Preferences --> CompizConfig Settings Manager

---

In CCSM, go to Window Management, and then Place Windows.

There you can change it from the default 'smart' to what you want ('centred').

It seems to work for me. But it means using Compiz.

If you don't have CCSM, install it in the terminal using:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
