iTunes gets on my tits

Recommended Posts

Dear Apple,

Surely it is not beyond the realms of possibility or programmatically impossible to let people with multiple iPods, iPod Touches and/or iPhones, to use different libraries easily.

Instead of the rather stupid faffing about with pressing shift whilst clicking on the iTunes icon then having to search for the relevant library files - which is a ball ache - why can we not have a button or drop down with choices as to which library we want to use?

Even better, as soon as you plug in your iWhatever, which as we all know have their own unique ID - for DRM purposes I suspect, iTunes just automatically selects which library is relevent to that device.

I have over the last few weeks become accustomed to your idiosyncratic software, which still doesn't have a 'stop button' - pretty much every other music player/software I have used does so why not you, is that not 'Apple' enough for you?

Please include this feature in future releases.

As with all things Apple - Great Hardware, crap software.

Hopefully

I would agree on the multiple libraries, I know people who have a family PC with everything on they use for their iPods, etc.

It should really be sorted.

Though one question, why do you need a stop button if the pause button does essentially the same?

I understand the need for devices that require user input for changing media, say, a DVD player, but surely with digital music having a stop and pause button is useless?

The need for a stop button is kind of psychological I think in a way, but at the same time sometimes it's useful to stop a song and then restart from the beginning. If someone walks in when you're listening to a song and they spoil it for you, you can press stop and then press play when they've gone, rather than pause, rewind, play... I guess!?

Makes sense, like traffic lights who's buttons don't do anything since they are all timed anyway, lol.

But in iTunes there is three buttons, Previous, Pause and Next. Hitting Previous will do what you just said, it will start the song playing from the beginning, unless its in the first few seconds at which point it will go back a song.

Ahh no what I meant was sort of in the rare situation where for instance, you're enjoying a song, someone walks in ruins it has a conversation with you and after the conversation you want to restart, it's best to go Stop > Play.

Whereas just hitting Previous would restart the song in their presence.

Also does iTunes do videos? If so I can see this being good for videos too for some reason, maybe force of habit.

I need a stop button on foobar, otherwise it would not release the soundcard (because I'm using WASAPI exclusive mode).

But I guess that's not related to iTunes... :p

I to which it could be more inteligent in manging multiple devices but Apple have decided that one user will have their own account and one iPod.

I found the same issues and come up with the following solutions:

1. Set up a user account for each person that has a device, then they all have their own libraries.

You could store all of the music in a shared folder then there would be no permissions issues and no doubling up of music.

2. Set up playlists for each iPod. Connect an iPod and set it to only sync it's specific playlist

Yeah, I'd just sync the iPod with a specific playlist as Toga suggested. I can't think of any music players that actually support multiple libraries that sync with multiple devices as you have suggested.

I can also think of a number of features I'd prefer to see before anything you are suggesting gets implemented.

1. Backup and restore to HD or USB HD instead of DVD-Rs. Drives me nuts how when I reinstall iTunes I pretty much lose all my play history.

2. Actually tag files when I change information, not just the database file. That is super annoying, again because when I reinstall iTunes or move my music to a new machine all my genera changes etc. are lost.

You guys just don't understand how to use it, having a stop button is redundant and not necessary, you can do exactly what a stop button would with the pause button,

in fact there is a stop button you just don't know how to see it, click on music in the sidebar, play a song now pause it, then click on videos or something else in the sidebar, look up and what used to be a pause button is now a stop button.

I do not see the need for multiple libraries when you can sync a particular device to a playlist, a playlist is a library within a library duh!

restarting the song by clicking pause and then the previous button is the same as clicking stop and then play, both 2 clicks what is the difference?

Took the words right out of my mouth. Stop then Play, Pause then Previous - what's the difference?!

That's assuming people know that combo. A stop button is easier to understand. I have it on Winamp and VLC, I just wanted it on iTunes for 'my' easy of use.

Each to their own.

How many average users have multiple libraries?

It's not necessarily that people have multiple libraries as multiple ipods. I only knew about libraries through googling. **** poor multiple ipod implementation by apple if you ask me.

    • I am not a fan of haptic feedback touchpads. I've owned a Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon) with one and a Lenovo Slim (Intel), and I hated both to the point where I purchased different laptops. It's not that they don't work most of the time; it's that they don't work 100% of the time, and there is no advantage from a user's perspective over a good mechanical trackpad like what's on a ThinkPad X1 or a Yoga 9i. I do not believe that I'll buy another haptic feedback touchpad laptop again in the near future.
    • Works fine here too. About this build, I don't like to download any kind of Windows, from any site except Microsoft. The mod might work, but I don't know what it's inside. Can contain malware, backdoors... Long time ago I've used something like this but reversed - it was 98se with the look and some functionality  of XP. Or, later XP with Vista look. But I made it myself. Not downloaded from obscure sites.
    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
