Learning curve to VB.net

I would say I am an intermediate level C++ programmer, so I have programmed before. I am fully familiar with classes, object oriented programming and all that good stuff.

So my question to you is how long would you expect me to pickup Visual Basic .NET? I have a good by MS Press entitled Coding Techniques for Visual Basic .NET, I have been reading it (up to the page with the section titled write your first real program :) ), but beyond hold your hand tutorials, when would you estimate I will be able to actually sit down and write my own code?

Suppose it depends how often you practice/code...

I Started from scratch learning VB6... took me a couple of months, two years on and i use VB.net (took a couple of weeks to get used to it but its a lot better than previous versions...)

As long as you have MSDN i'd say it would prolly take you about 2 - 3 weeks...

why VB.Net? You already know C++ so using C++ within the .Net framework or using C# would make soo much more sense

It will not take you long, but I suggest another book if ur interested Visual Basic .NET Unleashed published by sams. It is a damn good one....C# would make more sense, or at least you'd be able to pick it up faster.....it is all the same anyways because of the CLR so no matter what language u pick it will be leveraging the exact same namespaces etc.

Even though C# may make more sense, if you go with Vb.Net, you wouldn't get confused by things which only differ a bit between C++ and C# - sometimes it is easier to cope with big changes than little ones.
