HDMI or VGA/DVI Input for LCD Monitor

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been posted before, and sorry if you think this is a stupid question, but I just have to ask it to get a more clear answer than what googling and other searches gave me.

Is there a difference between using HDMI or VGA/DVI input for computer monitors (not TV's) when using Windows 7? My current monitor is a VGA-only, but for my b-day I will be getting a HDMI capable monitor and I have an HDMI available graphics card. Basically will I see any differences or will it be the same when doing basic computer activities (internet, gaming, productivity suites)?

HDMI's out on the PC is intended for but not limited to displaying video files on TV sets, also I think but am not sure it is limited to 1080p output which VGA and DVI or even mini-display ports are not.

HDMI is also not usually the default or main output of your videocard so you may suffer less performance

if your main use of the monitor is the main display of your computer than i suggest VGA/DVI rather than HDMI

Hey mate, there's no difference :)

No signal conversion is required, nor is there a loss of video quality when a DVI-to-HDMI adapter is used.
