4x01 Sypnosis

The gang are back after the summer break, in a seemingly protective bubble of hedonism: there are no consequences, no tomorrow and everyone will live forever. Then Thomas (Merveille Lukeba) experiences a life-changing event, causing him to question everything: his faith, his family and even his choice of friends. The reverberations will reach far beyond Thomas?s story, affecting the lives of all those around him.

Effy (Kaya Scodelario) returns, no longer with her queen-bee status, and still struggling to deal with her family issues. Her best friend, Pandora (Lisa Backwell), is back, adorable and kooky as ever. Twins Katie (Megan Prescott) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott) are visibly different: after leaving her sister?s shadow Emily is head over heels in love, but while she?s finding out what life is really like, Katie is left behind in a family meltdown.

Naomi (Lily Loveless) seems to have more to hide this series; while JJ (Ollie Barbieri) finally discovers what love is. Meanwhile Cook (Jack O?Connell) tries to simultaneously exorcise his demons while concealing his weaknesses, and Freddie (Luke Pasqualino) finds out that love can lead you to the edge of sanity.

Skins writer Georgia Lester has revealed that the show's fourth series will feature "lots of heartbreak".

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, she confessed that the love triangle between Freddie, Effy and Cook will finally be resolved.

"Effy does choose someone, but I can't tell you who!" she said. "Nothing can be happy when it comes to Effy, so there's a lot of heartbreak. They all become mended at points."

Lester added that she will miss working with Kaya Scodelario (Effy) when the cast are axed at the end of series four.

"I think she really has grown within Skins and the audience has loved her. But I think it's another challenge for the writers and for the audience to accept - if we do get recommissioned - a completely new cast.

"I think it will be very sad when she leaves - Kaya's been a massive part of Skins."

Ten teasers about the new series of 'Skins'

The rumours are true: Skins is returning for its fourth series next month! Last time around, Effy had got herself into a bit of a pickle with Cook and Freddie, Pandora and Thomas decided to call time on their relationship, and Naomi and Emily... well, they weren't really sure what to do for the best. Ahead of the new series, Tube Talk outlines what we can expect from television's most notorious teens.

1. There's a tragic accident in episode one - and Thomas is left feeling responsible.

2. Cook and Freddie become a smaller part of JJ's life as he starts to stand on his own two feet. There's even love on the horizon for him!

3. Pandora's calmed down a lot, and that means less hedonism and a lack of rebellion...

4. ...whereas Thomas is punching out in all sorts of ways - and his reckless behaviour may last the whole series.

5. Effy returns to school to find she's no longer Queen Bee. Who might take her place?

6. The twins are much more separate this time around. While Emily starts off on cloud nine, Katie is left dealing with a family meltdown.

7. Naomi and Emily are loved up from episode one - but Naomi is hiding something from her which may threaten their relationship.

8. After standing up for what he feels is right, love pushes Freddie to the brink of insanity.

9. Cook is up to his usual tricks: turning to drugs and booze to mask his feelings.

10. One teen turns to God after a devastating turns of events.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
