Skins returned with 1.1 million viewers on E4 last night, Thursday 28 January, easily outdoing the return of Secret Diary of a Call Girl on ITV2.

The start of the fourth series of E4's teen drama attracted 938,000 viewers in the 10pm hour, a 5.1% share of the multichannel audience. A further 164,000 watched an hour later on catchup service E4 +1, according to unofficial overnight ratings.

Secret Diary of Call Girl, the adaptation of the Belle de Jour blog and book starring Billie Piper that is returning for a third series, pulled in 664,000 viewers in its first half-hour instalment at 10pm, a share of 3.3%, while the second episode at 10.30pm drew 640,000. A further 91,000 and 92,000 respectively watched on the catchup service ITV2 +1.

The show was beaten into third place among multichannel offerings at 10pm, with BBC3's repeat of EastEnders picking up 818,000 viewers and a 4% share.

Skins' performance ? the best since its launch in 2007 ? was an improvement on the last series' average of 890,000 and the first episode's combined audience of 833,000, of which 665,000 was on E4 and the rest on E4 +1.

The launch night of the first series back in January 2007 drew 1.4 million viewers, setting a record for E4's best ever audience for an UK-originated programme other than Big Brother.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi is like god, but with better weapons" I was in hysterics :D

It's in real 720p HD finally. I'm going to watch it tonight I think.

I believe Skins has been filmed in HD since Series 1, the channels its shown on here in the UK have not been HD until recently though.

Channel 4 HD have shown the HD versions of Series 2 and 3 a few months after its been on E4.

Really did not like that episode at all, yes they always concentrate on 1 character but there was hardly any involvment at all from the other characters like normal episodes. And thomas the most boring one of the lot.. Hopefully next weeks an improvement.

I don't think they should have chosen Thomas as the first episode. It was all shock and awe in the first 5 mins, but then didn't regain anything until the end. Hopefully the other episodes will be better.

Worst episode of Skins i've seen. I was informed they always focus an episode around one character, i've never noticed that before?

From the start it looked like it was going to be amazing but after that nothing happened, for the full episode i was sat wanting more.

Hopefully next week is better.

Skins, always focuses every episode around one character.. http://www.epguides.com/skins

It is also the writing style of the show that leaves you wanting more on purpose, although in this case not more of the same :D

.... and Emily's brother was on top form as usual! What was he doing in that dress hee hee - he's brilliant

I couldn't figure that out either--hilarious!

But it was an okay episode all round. A bit of a downer. I got a glimpse or two of Effy, which keeps me going!

Probably to get naomi to like him :p

Better than the first episode, but still not on form compared to the others.

+1, this one was better than the first, but still no-where near as good as I was expecting. The 'next time' looked pretty good though, Cook's episode next week!

    • Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip brings on-device AI to Android XR devices by Pradeep Viswanathan Qualcomm has been delivering dedicated SoCs for mixed reality and spatial computing devices for several years. The journey started with the Snapdragon XR1, followed by the Snapdragon XR2 in 2019, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 in September 2023, and finally the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 in 2024. Today, Qualcomm announced a major upgrade with the new Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, which targets premium mixed reality and spatial computing devices. OEMs can use this SoC to power both all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through glasses. Qualcomm highlighted that the Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the next wave of Android XR devices coming later this year. These wearables will offer better visuals, improved power efficiency, and deeper on-device AI integration compared to the previous generation. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can deliver up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, allowing large language models and large vision models to run directly on the device for the first time. In addition to enabling new spatial AI experiences, these new AI capabilities will improve head and hand tracking, as well as see-through features. On the performance side, the Snapdragon Reality Elite offers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared to the previous generation. The platform supports visuals of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second for sharper images and smoother motion. Qualcomm is also claiming significant efficiency improvements. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can offer up to 20% longer battery life under the same workload. More importantly, the chipset can run up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load, making headsets more comfortable for users to wear for longer periods. The platform also includes improvements to video see-through, featuring lower latency and better image quality. Qualcomm states that its EVA hardware block helps accelerate demanding computer vision workloads, improving how digital content blends with the real world.
    • Umm... GitHub continues to use AWS. That's the story, that's the headline. There's no "new" news here. GitHub continues to require additional capacity beyond the originally-planned Azure allocations. There's nothing special about this; nothing noteworthy. They're still using AWS' infra until the cutover is complete.

    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
