Reallocating space on a hard drive...

Recommended Posts

I don't know why I seem to be having so much trouble doing this... But I have three partitions (volumes) on a single disk. I deleted one volume and want to move the unused space over to another partition. Im using Disk Management in Windows Vista x64. I deleted the volume I didn't want anymore (so now it is unallocated space), and when I right click on the volume I want to Extend... the option is grayed out. Tried formatting the unallocated space for NTFS... and the option is still grayed out. What do I have to do so I can extend the volume I want with the unallocated space on the same disk?

so further research is telling me that its only able to extend space if the partition is right next to it... which it is not. Why? No idea...

So what i have looks like this... ---> Vista partition | XP Partition | Unallocated Space

if it had looked like this... ---> Vista Partition | Unallocated Space | XP Partition

than I would of been able to do it perfectly... so i guess I need to get a vista 64 bit compatible partitioning software.... either that or delete my XP partition and then reinstall it after I move around the space.... which I kind of dont want to do.

Anybody know any GOOD Vista x64 compatible partitioning software?

If moving the XP partition, one thing I've had happen before is that the moving process can corrupts some files sometimes, it is a good idea to make a partition clone as a backup and put it on another physical drive somewhere.

using a defragment program that can consolidate or compact your XP partition prior to moving can help reduce the chance of corruption.

I use PartedMagic or GParted for any partition work. They're bootable LiveCDs. Just make sure to Apply the changes when done.

I use these after so many other apps let me down. Slide your XP partition into the free space and then attach you space it left to your Vista partition.

Thanks to a 14% discount, you can buy this all-metal 4K webcam from Acer for just $59.99. Despite the affordable price tag, the webcam has a pretty large 1/2" CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony. Apart from its size, it supports additional conveniences, such as high dynamic range and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Plus, the camera ensures you do not have to buy additional audio equipment, as it comes with two built-in high-sensitivity microphones, a built-in background noise filter, and the ability to pick up your voice from up to 2.5 meters away. Acer is not cheaping out on materials, and the webcam is enclosed in a more premium metal case, which is also good at heat dissipation (high-resolution cameras can get quite hot).
