Looking for a program that can tell if a file online has been updated

Question

I'm looking for an specific application. Let me tell you what i'd like this application to do.

When I do computer repair jobs I wear a usb thumbstick around my neck (yes I know that's geeky) it has all of my setup files / AV's / Service packs and such. I also carry a book of CD's in my SUV which contains the same files

I always update these files. So when I update them I have to go back to the website and grab the latest version. Let's Take Superantispyware for example. The main setup file you download from their website is SUPERAntiSpyware.exe.

No matter which version they are on the setup file is always the same. What I am looking for is an application that can be configured to go out and see if superantispyware.exe has updated since the last time. If it has I would like it to download it for me. It would really nice if I could specify a location that each file downloads to. In the case of superantispyware it would be great if when it downloads it, it saves it to D:\folderbackup\applications\Spyware Scanners\SuperAntispyware and overwrites the previous version.

I'd prefer free but if I have to pay for something that's no big deal.

Software recommendations would be great.

Thanks

Adam

Well would it be possible to compare the file size. The browser always knows the size of the file.

So if the one I already had was 39,658,008 bytes

and the current one on the server was 39,659,002 bytes then it could be assumed that an newer version is out there.

Sometimes you can't get the file size though. I've downloaded files before that the browser didn't know how big it was.

Another must-have for some people could be WSCC http://www.kls-soft.com/wscc/index.php all stuff from Sysinternals and Nirsoft. Also command console and shortcuts to build-in Windows utilities. Nirsoft has own autoupdater now but this is better.
