LilSnoop40
Hi, i recently installed a UltraATA 133 PCI controller into my pc. i need this because i am running 3 hdd's. but ever since i installed this my computer freezes up every now and then. where before i could let my pc run for weeks at a time and do many multitasking and wouldn't even bother it. when i installed the driver for this controller that box popped up in winxp saying that the driver wasn't good for xp but you could install anyway, so i did. and now i am wondering what to do and what is a good controller card to buy for the add on of 2 hdd's max. i need some help on what one to go with please. links would help and name. i bought the one that is causing me problems from best buy. thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/86071-ata-controller-question/ Share on other sites
mistical
What kind of PCI controller is it? I had problems when I bought HighPoint controllers, but, Promise gave me no problems at all with their drivers, I had so much trouble with Windows XP running stable on the Highpoint drivers. So if it is highpoint, I'd really recommend going and buying a Promise one. Worked great for me including drivers of course. Yes it sure does.....check drivers/firmware...but check the docs before you flash firmware (some ATA cards don't like it when you flash them and they've already been installed on your PC).
