God Mode in Windows 7

Create a new folder (right-click and click on ?New Folder?). Right-click on the folder and click on rename, copy and paste this: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

What comes up is a Control Panel like window with sections for Action Center ("Check security status" and so on), Administrative Tools, and AutoPlay.

I'm sorry to go OT but I'm a gamer and this just reminded me of going to the console (command prompt) and typing "god" or something, then it prevents Windows BSODs :p

It isn't actually called "god mode." It's a virtual folder called All Tasks (open it with shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} to get the real name) that I believe is used internally by Windows to allow you to search for tasks. It isn't supposed to be used directly, and doesn't give you access to anything you don't already have access to in the Control Panel. Its usefulness seems very limited to me, and I'm not even sure why it's getting so much attention now when it was actually created years ago for Vista.

You do realize that alot of the options are repeated, right? Read Ed Bott's blog and you'll see the real purpose of this "god mode".

I think it's a good thing also! I have installed the applet called 'Default Programs Editor' which allows you to edit the icons for filetypes and their descriptions, and other things, and in GodMode, they're all in a nice convenient list, so I don't have to make all the clicks in the single program. I've just changed the name to SuperControl Panel.

For example:

1. It's nice to have a direct link to Advanced Appearance Properties dialog, and even just for changing the background image or the Aero glass color. Or the Show or Hide common icons on the Desktop. That's under the 'Personalization' grouping of shortcuts.

2. You can drag any of the shortcuts to your Desktop or to your taskbar.

Just a warning: Don't try that in Vista.

Explorer.exe got stuck in an infinite crash loop; had to reboot into safe mode and remove the folder via command prompt

It actually takes me longer to scroll the godmode window listing and find what I want than to just fly open the Start menu and type what I want and hit enter.
