Man com'on dont be so fking rude. I made my first wall paper too, let's say it was a lil bit better and dumb @ses started ****ting me link this and I stopped doing anything. I said why would I do something that no one likes? Soo I dont think that he needs this. He needs to get help and better tools not your stupid comments. Just keep it for yourself, it's true it's not a wallpaper that someone would really use on his desktop but those are starts, dont tell me that when you started you woore like Dokt or many other skinists over here.

oh give me a break.. i would think that a person that posts on Neowin (a tech/design site) and has been exposed to countless graphical pieces, be it skins or wallpapers, or one who would actually go through the trouble of making a wallpaper, given the fact he KNOWS what wallpapers are used for........ i would THINK, he wouldnt just badly copy/paste a pic on a 800*600 canvas, put a boring color as the background not even trying to make it interesting, and add the most boring fonts and colors to an already cliche'd out cookie-cutter Neowin wall..

blah.. this sucks, end of story, and he should be trolled, if nothing, for actually NOT TRYING to do a good job, but compiling a 5 min hack and calling it your first wall..

meh.. :/ im cruel, i know

Here's a troll for ya. Your being a freaking moron, if you don't like helping people out in a constructive manor, go somewhere else. Last I checked, Neowin was a community to help one another out, not to degrade people. If you don't like it again, go post somewhere where idiots like you are welcome.

*sigh*

first of all, you dont know me.. i DO like helping people out, as long as theres something to be helped out with, and not some joke of an effort such as this.. again, his was a 5 minute effortless cut/paste&text job, and even then, it was a very poor one at that.. material like this just doesnt come from someone who's into graphics-related websites such as this, has been using a computer for more than a week, or has been exposed to the graphical world we live in.. that person ought to know what a bad wallpaper is..

ahhh this is getting nowhere except more frustration and thread lockage.. im out.. PM me if you want to keep this going

Yeah - practise a bit more. I think everyone here was a bit harsh . . . but when you put crap like that up you should expect some criticism. I would have posted in a different topic, and asked for assistance before calling this complete.

I think you know what you want to see, you jest need to learn how to use your tools.

Enough of this flaming.

Ceminess - this wallpaper isn't very good. And here's why:

First, the jagged lines everywhere. If you look at the outline of the girl, there are tons of jagged lines. That's not good, and no one would ever use this for that fact alone. Look at some things about doing either better cutouts initially, or learn about gaussian blurs and how to apply them to get the desired affect. Doing this, you can pretty much eliminate all of that and make it look natural. And with the shoulder - that can be repaired using copying and pasting of other sections of her, then blurring etc. However, if you can't do it or get it to look natural, then that picture shouldn't be used at all.

Second, the basis of the design. I'm sorry, but the design just isn't original. If you look at it as a whole, it just doesn't flow and while that is a hard concept to explain, if you browse around some of the more popular graphic sites, look at what makes good wallpapers really stand out. There is a cohesion throughout the work. Taking a girl, slapping it on a black background with a Neowin logo and red slogan in a not-so-great font (referring to the first pic) just isn't going to do it. What I would recommend for this is to browse popular graphics sites (DeviantArt, our wallpaper/graphics forums) and look at what wallpapers get good reviews. Why are they getting good reviews?

Third, play around with the tools in your graphics program. Learn what they do. Learn how they work. I know with photoshop, there are tons and tons of tutorials sites out there. If you are really serious, buy a book. Sit down and actually go through it one page at a time.

And there you go. These are just my opinion, and I'm not slamming you personally in anyway. Great people rise above the adversity, and can take the criticism about their work (constructive criticism that is...) Use it, learn from it, and try again. That's how we all learn. Sometimes people forget that.

Enough of this flaming.

just wanted to say.. great post.. i really mean it :)

you have way more patience and optimism than me, granted

but i have to ask: do you really think he will get better at graphical design as a whole? im not talking about Photoshop skills, cuz he will definitelly conquer the "easy on the eyes" look in his next attempt.. i mean, the whole "flow", like you mentioned.. i just think he will stumble upon that issue over and over again.. and eventually, get frustrated from the constant comments and give up.. im just giving him the short route, actually, by being a stronger critic.. so "constructive" is defined by how you look at it..

and yes, ive seen examples like this..

That's a tough question memNOC. Basically what we are asking is what we think his future potential will be. And the response to that, is that we just don't know (sorry about talking about you in the 3rd person Ceminess) :) With the current work, I would say not. However, that doesn't mean that it won't develop with the proper support and learning. Some artists are just naturally creative - they make it look easy. Those are probably the people that have the awesome "first" attempts, even though we all know that that means their first "shared" attempt. They perfect it long before they post it. But if you aren't naturally creative, you can learn and pick up on certain techniques - I think creativeness can be learned with the proper influence. Some will definitely have to work harder at it than others. A lot of it is picked up as you get older and more experienced with life as well. So, who's to say? Basically, it will come down to how much you want to improve yourself. If you really have a strong desire to do something truly amazing, then you will work at it no matter how long it takes (years) and it could take that long before you get something that other people look at and say "wow." But if you don't have that desire, and don't really want to learn and get better (at least you will have a better understanding of what that takes personally...) then I think you won't bother to post anything here anyway.

There is also the point of "well, he is the only one that has to like the work." True, but it was posted here for a reason - for feedback. Give him the feedback (again, constructive) and he will either take it and use it to improve or realize he doesn't have what it takes and not worry about it for the future. It's all a learning process.

And I wasn't going after you specifically - my post is also directed to the people that flame back because they aren't adding anything to this either. They aren't helping to improve Ceminess, which is the point of this post and this entire community.

thanks to some of the more constroctive posts in about a month and a half (hopfully i will be much better by then) i will post another wallpaper and hopfully prove memNOC wrong.

i have nothing against you personally, so i hope you do.. im just talking out of previous experience..

good luck and have fun :)

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
