Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has tested positive for a banned substance, according to the Italian Olympic Committee.

A statement said traces of sibutramine were found in a sample given after a Serie A match between Fiorentina and Bari on 10 January.

The Romania international tested positive for cocaine in September 2004 when playing for Chelsea.

Mutu was subsequently banned for seven months by the Football Association.

If this does turn out to be true, surely now his career is totally over. After all the trouble he is in with the compensation he needs to pay Chelsea, he goes and does this? What a muppet. I've lost all sympathy for him!

I know I mean he is contesting the fine he got from Chelsea but really he has no case now!

If it was some odd substance in normal medication then I'll cut him slack, but anti fat pills indicates he tried to speed up his fitness. ?Thats a bit shameful.

It's not like Paddy Kenny who took some cough syrup and got a ban, this is quite something else.

The Romanian marksman was sacked by Chelsea in 2004 for taking cocaine that also earned him a seven-month ban.

Mutu has since rebuilt his career with the likes of Juventus and now Fiorentina, prior to his positive test following their win over Bari.

A statement from CONI, which acts as Italy's anti-doping body, revealed traces of the substance sibutramine were found in a sample provided by him following the Serie A match against Bari on 10th January.

The statement read: "CONI announces that a positive test has been confirmed on Adrian Mutu with the presence of metabolics of sibutramine found in tests done by the FIGC on January 10 after the Serie A game between Fiorentina and Bari."

Mutu scored in a 2-1 Fiorentina victory and it remains to be seen what action, if any, the Italian football federation will take against the striker.

The ex-Juve man is reportedly facing a one to four-year ban if the results of his first sample are indeed in breach of Italy's anti-doping regulations.

Fiorentina, who qualified from the Champions League group stages but have slipped to ninth in Serie A after a poor run of form, were not immediately available to comment.

well he's failed a 3rd drugs test it seems! :|

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has failed a third drug test, according to the Italian Olympic Committee.

News broke on Thursday that the Romanian forward had tested positive for traces of sibutramine, an anti-obesity drug, after a Serie A clash against Bari on January 10th.

But fresh details from the CONI have revealed Mutu also had the same substance in his system during Viola's Coppa Italia quarter-final win over Lazio ten days later.

Italy's National Anti-doing Tribunal (TNA) have provisionally suspended the 31-year-old following his latest drugs misuse and the ex Juventus and Chelsea front man faces the prospect of a ban up to four years .

Fiorentina insists they had nothing to do with the administration of the banned substance but have stood by the striker with Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino telling Sky Italia. "It's a situation that leaves us astonished, but we believe in the player's good faith.

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.

    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
