System Running Slow

OK, so when I realized that it took 10 minutes to open up Chrome and log into my gmail account, I figured something was wrong.

I had killed six things with MalwareBytes the other day...

But even those might be safe processes.

It is probably feeling sluggish down to the sheer number of programs you have setup to start at login. Your msconfig.exe list must be hugh. Look at trimming it down.

The ones in bold are the ones you can defintely get rid of (in my opinion). The one in bold and red I don't recognise at all, so look at it more closely. Also, you may want to think about replacing McAfee with Microsoft Security Essentials.

You have McAfee running and you were hit by maleware ? So what do you need McAfee for ? Uninstall this bloated application and use free anti-virus like : Microsoft, AVG, AVIRA...

It is not advisable to run 2 anti-virus programs in real-time as it will slow/hang the PC due to conflicts/lockout of the applications.

All those processes are related to simplifying text... weird... i don't know where tehy came from.

Ican't change the AV because this is not my computer. It's my college's, buti'm not on campus to get it looked at. It's a netbook on loan from the computer center.

So I took the advice given here about the startup programs, found that suspicious "windows xp" process and killed it and another tweak or two and I'm back up to my normal 1-2 minute boot time. Thanks.
