FFVII PS3 remake a no-go because game?s ?style? hard to translate into HD

ffviiacc.jpg

There?s that fat lady again. She?s just singing her lungs away, isn?t she?

So, how?s the next verse in her dirge for Final Fantasy VII?s ain?t-gonna-happen PS3 remake go? Well, let?s take a listen.

In an interview with Ultimania magazine, producer Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama explained that

replicating FFVII?s ?style? with snazzy HD graphics is a Cloud?s-Buster-Sword sized order. ?It is a result of considering HD graphics will be

the mainstream. Considering the amount of work to make graphics that deserve HD, it is hard to make towns in the conventional style,? Toriyama said.

Final Fantasy XIII, of course, did away with towns altogether in order to remedy this problem.

?It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had.

Making graphics will take enormous time,? Kitase added.

Sure is a shame that everyone played FFVII for the towns, huh?

If only the story, characters, and battle system were anywhere near as memorable.

Then maybe Square could? naaaaah.

Isnt it possible to just remake the textures in just a bit more detail? I mean the gameplay wont be fully HD but it wont look pixelated. Something like SF2. Where it was remade into HDRemix and thats the same game just the graphics redone into HD.

I mean the game plays the same like it did on super nintendo, it just looks a lot better being in HD and higher resolution.

Something to this sort:

EDIT: Image to big, just gonna link to it. Example

Idk if its possible with FF7 as ive never played ANY ff games. But, is that possible or no?

It still requires time and if your developers are bogged down in other games, you don't have time.

In the 5 years it took them to make FFXIII I'm pretty sure they had the time to make towns.

I personally think it might be a translation issue where by "towns" he means "environment"

huh? What is those things in Uncharted 2 or Assassin's Creed 2 where people live? If other developers can create towns why Square cant?

Maybe they want something super detailed or... I don't know. That Tibetan Town in Uncharted 2 looks beautiful and really detailed.

Tell me where it says they CAN'T do it, PLEASE.

It's a prediction on how they won't allot the required time to redo things in the game that requires a lot of time to bring into the

HD era.

100% different scenario, FF7 is a 3D title and would require a ton more effort then redrawing a bunch of sprites, it would require remodelling the whole game, which would literally take a couple of years. Maybe in the next generation it'd be possible as they could "borrow" the models from FF7 AC to cut down some of the time required to remake the game, but it'd still take a few years. Remaking FF7 will be an absolute herculean effort and would eat up a ton of SE's resources, and may not even be worth the amount of money they put into it (I mean, the game will probably only sell about 10 million realistically, which may not even be that much profit considering the amount of money put into human resources for 3-4 years).

Someone with sense (Y)

So really what they are saying is, " Boo hoo we think its too hard to do because we are lazy programmers....." What a lame excuse to not do something... Who ever accept the excuse, It's too hard? oh noes, too many lines!!!!

Yes that is what they are saying

Honestly, the only reason why I'm not saying what I'm really thinking is because my warn will go up 20% guaranteed. Seriously dude, if that's what you honestly think then you honestly have no clue what it's like to be a games programmer in the industry.

Sethos - Thanks

Regardless of what that article says, adding or not adding towns is a design decision and not a technical desicion

Depends. I was mostly kidding when I mentioned something about FFXIII not being as good because of MS. However, as said before, there's been a lot cut from the final game, and I have to wonder how much of that was due to disc space and not being able to use redundant data could explain some of the linearity (the PS1-era FF games used redundant data across each disc, since they were more or less open world after a while, just FMV and scripting/audio/story changes to seperate them). Not using towns (and all of the design, scripting, databases, character models, and audio that goes with it) just might not have fit on less than 2 more discs.

Of course, we could also blame the fact that there's three games involved here, with the Fabu-whatever-Crystal-thingy mythos of games.

Sad part is they have to keep telling peoplethay are not going to Do it however if it was difficult to do it then how did they do dirge of Cerberus, advent children, or crsis core which all looked rather amazing lol

Dirge and Crisis Core were PS2/PSP games, it's a -lot- easier to design towns when you don't have to put as much detail into them. Advent Children wasn't even in real time, and while it seemed large in scale I guarantee the largest scene they actually made was the opening sequence :p With CG movies they can take a ton of liberties such as not modelling the whole town, only parts you'll see in the movie - something they simply can't do in video games.

    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
