I'm slowing down! How!

Recommended Posts

So a few months ago I decided to purchase a Dell XPS 1645 and when I bought it, it ran great

Specs are:

Intel i7 720M processer @ 1.66GHZ

6GB Ram

ATI Mobility 4670

RGBLED screen 16"

And so when I bought it the first thing I did was do a clean install of windows 7, boot times were pretty good and the speed of the OS

was awesome. So over the past 2 months of owning the laptop the speed has just about died. It takes over 5 minutes to boot and that's just not normal!!

The OS has just been getting worse and worse even for the gaming i do I noticed its been getting laggier

Even the internet is loading slower on it for some reason (Can't even load a youtube video without it stopping like I can on my other computer thats wireless G and this is wireless N)

What could be the cause of this? I have norton 360 installed but the speed was already slowing before I installed it a month ago. 6 hours ago I was playing need for speed shift and then I decided to take a break

I came back a few hours later and the game started lagging like hell and so i restarted the pc and still lagged and I was playing on the same options as before!

Wow, this is so confusing

Oh and OS is windows 7 professional x64

Oh and plus I have a Networkk adapter called dell 1520 wireless N mini card that won't let me connect to a domain I press on connect and all it does is say unable to connect so if you know anything about that could you please help as well

Thanks

You may have some kind of viruses in your pc.

Things you can do before going for the worst (format) are:

1. Download malewarebytes and rus a full scan of all your hdds but first update the program before start scanning.

2. After doing a search for viruses download and install the system mechanic 9 (not the professional) and run a full analyze and repair all the problems that it'll show you.

3. Finally do a simple clean with ccleaner and also clean your registry too with that app.

4. Start > run and write msconfig and go to the tab startup and untick all the unnecessary programs and if you don't know what they do just post and image here so we can tell you.

Then go to the services tab and tick the "Hide all Microsoft services" and then again untick all the unnecessaryservices and if you don't know what they do just post and image here so we can tell you.

Do all the steps from the beginning and tells us how you pc works now and if does the same things again then i think you should format your hdd. :)

Have you installed the latest BIOS update from Dell? from what I understand Dell has recently provided a BIOS update that addresses CPU scaling issues.

Oh, and also make sure you use the laptop on a hard surface with plenty of space between the surface and laptop so that there is sufficient air flow.

Oh yes I forgot to say I updated my bios a week ago and that actually made it worse =/

It now boots even slower and I reckon it maybe even the cause of my sudden graphical failures!

Gah I'll try DJ X's method and if that aint work then I guess an image then reinstall

but that will all have to wait for the weekend because not enough time to reinstall during the week =/

OK.. WTF! I just did A fix of the registry and a clean with CCleaner (removed 4GBS) And now my comp is blazing fast and startup is like only 50 seconds!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

my computer r retard?

Well I don't know about now, but Dell used to have a pretty bad reputation of filling their OEM machines with a lot of unnecessary junk software. Running CCleaner probably helped the greatest amount. When you say you have a lot of programs installed, how many would you say? Installing software that has processes run on boot up can really make a computer run slow.

heh, well it is a Dell. :p

Good to see you fixed it. :)

dells are weird like HP so thats why and cleaning the registry does not improve speed but it may cause errors but sometimes registry defragmenters do help as they dont remove anything just defrag it,also if windows 7 is slowing down a format won't help as what if the problem happens again then you would waste like 6+hours reinstalling and say 3 months later it slows down then the cycle continues but a format is only needed if nothing else but check for malware and your startups and updated drivers.
