Firefox 3.6.1/3.6.2 - whats going on?

Recommended Posts

3.6.1 was scheduled to be released today when 3.6 went final, now it has been removed from the firefox wiki and rumours are it will be skipped according to this:

Firefox 3.6.2

* will be built off Gecko 1.9.2.2

* potentially skipping the version number of Firefox 3.6.1 in order to stay in sync with platform

* hoping for small, mid-February release, co-inciding with Firefox 3.0.18/3.5.8

Does anyone know whats really happening, there are quite alot of bugs in 3.6 such as not being able to scoll when over flash, tabs not rendering the page when you move between them and other such things, was hoping to download a 3.6.1 today with lots of bug fixes.

p.s does anyone have a link on bugzilla for the list of bugs fixed in 3.6.1/2? Its not the easiest site to search:(

here are those bugs:

regarding the flash scrolling bug, try here: http://www.tmz.com/ - the "tmz chill zone" about 1/3rd the way down from the top is a flash banner and will also stop you from scrolling.

Try here too: http://perezhilton.com/page/1/ - its a wordpress blog with youtube vids embedded, try scrolling the page, it will stop scrolling when you move over a flash embedded object like youtube.

the first bug in that list is unconfirmed. as far as the flash bug stated in this post.....http://forums.mozill...?f=23&t=1685385 seems like 1ts obviously adobe's issue and not mozilla's because previous version was working before the upgrade. it needs to be submitted to adobe. it is their software that is causing an issue. not firefox.

the 3rd bug sounds like an incompatibility problem with xp sp3. maybe it's time for some of these cheap users out there to withhold on spending 14.99 a month on their mmorpg subscriptions and save up and upgrade their OS.

i haven't noticed any of these bugs in windows 7

i am tired of hearing people whining and moan about problems/bugs with software that is provided for FREE and not having bugs fixed right away.

you can't expect mozilla to release everything on the dates specified. their programmers have lives/families.. be freakin patient. it will be released when its released

yeah i remember it happening in earlier version of firefox 3.5 (the flash scrolling bug), i remember someone submitting it as a bug in v3.6 beta/rc, was hoping it would be fixed in 3.6 as its very annoying to have to move your mouse each time to carry on scrolling.

As for the 1st bug there is a youtube video showing it, i would have thought that would be enough confirmation for mozilla to investigate it but it seems that no-one has even looked at it :(

Oh what a great solution

v3.5.8 is on mozilla's servers now, apparently there are 6 blockers left for 3.6.2 according to softpedia. Anyone know what benefits having a newer gecko in 3.6.2 will do, will it improve the CSS or HTML5 compatbility?

General such point releases are security and stability updates. There may be CSS/HTML/JS (etc.) fixes, but it's rare.

(However, this may change - Mozilla are thinking about putting some backend features in "minor" releases, like out of process plugins)
