Free FTP software that auto-syncs?

Question

Hi,

I'm doing a website at the moment that's very PHP heavy; every time I make a small change and want to test it, I'll save it, then go into my FTP client and manually transfer it across and refresh the site - doesn't sound too bad, but for how often I check it'd be a *huge* time saver if I could find an FTP program that'd transfer the file instantly when I save it?

Probably a bit too much to ask for it to be free as well?! :)

Thanks guys

With the MS visual express tools you can open FTP sites directly. This means you don't have to work locally. (Risky)

Why don't you set up a localhost for testing changes? This would be better than releasing untested files to a live domain.

Why don't you just test it locally - then when your sure it works upload it. But sure there are lots of free ftp clients that can sync. winscp comes to mind.

http://winscp.net/eng/docs/task_synchronize

# If you make your changes locally and immediately upload the changed files to remote directory, you can make this much easier by making WinSCP watch for changes you make and automatically reflecting them on the remote directory using the function Keep remote directory up to date.

Many thanks guys, I am very tempted to setup a local host but from experience these things are a real nightmare when it comes to resources and generally messing with your system, I've got some local setups on virtual machines here using xampp or wamp but they all seem a little flakey :(

MS Visual tools looks cool thank you, but for now I think I'll try winscp since it's probably a bit less bloated/more focused.

Cheers!
