England's Wayne Bridge withdraws from internationals

Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge has made himself unavailable for England selection, thereby ruling himself out this summer's World Cup.

In a statement released by his lawyers, Bridge, 29, said his position in the national squad had become "untenable and potentially divisive".

The left-back has been in the spotlight over allegations that his ex-girlfriend had a relationship with John Terry.

England coach Fabio Capello stripped Terry of the captaincy this month.

In Bridge's statement released on Thursday, he added: "I have thought long and hard about my position in the England football team in the light of the reporting and events over the last few weeks.

"It has always been an honour to play for England. However, after careful thought I believe my position in the squad is now untenable and potentially divisive.

"Sadly therefore I feel for the sake of the team and in order to avoid what will be inevitable distractions, I have decided not to put myself forward for selection.

"I have today informed the management of this decision. I wish the team all the very best in South Africa."

This is not good news at all. Looking at the team overall, I think he should have accepted but he wouldn't have gotten along with Terry. You're probably right Rappy, it does mean retirement for him. I just hope not.

yeah I mean Terry will be around for a few more years yet and if he can't play with him then Bridge might as well do a Schole and retire early and concentrate on league

bridge is an idiot. hes giving up the chance to play for England in the world cup because terry slept with his ex-girlfriend? terry could sleep with my mom if it meant i could play for england!!!!

He might look at it differently..

he would certainly of been first choice left back looking at Coles injury

I guess he probably will retire within a year if he doesn't join back into the team by then.

I don't blame him.. if my best friend had an affair with my woman and worked in the same place I did.. I'd want to kick his *** but other than that not to see him which includes not working with him.. but then again.. my gf is not like a door knob..

This is one thing that i'm nopt sure on. I thought that when the affair happened she was still with Bridge, but all recent articles i've seen call her is ex (which she is now since November I think). So, was the affair going on when she was with Bridge or not.

If they were together, then his position is entirely understandable.

If they weren't together, then it is none of his business, and he should get over himself.

I think they were together at the time of the affair, hence why it's become such a big deal.

just watching the handshake that wasn't on motd... nice by bridge.

one thing i have to say though is that john terry must be a complete idiot. it's kinda trivial, but at a time when he should be keeping quiet and out of the spotlight, he comes onto the pitch with a ridiculous haircut, which can only be seen as an attempt to get attention...

i know its trivial, but i just don't get what he's thinking.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
