Universal Focus Rectangle Remover - Updated

Recommended Posts

  • 3 months later...

This does work with Vista x64, but only on 32-bit apps running through WOW64. 64-bit apps still have their focus rectangles. Which sucks since really the only program I want to remove them from is the 64-bit Explorer.

I've uploaded the user32.dll from Vista x64 SP1, if anybody wants to take a look a look at it:

Hello again, I'm wondering if by any chance this great hack will be updated to work with Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit? It doesn't work with Vista 64-bit as well. Anyone?

I hope it gets updated, it's the greatest hack I have came across to since ages..

Thanks again to the original developer.

Anyone know how to integrate this into XP Setup CD.

Is it just a matter of pasting Focus Rectangle Remover.dll into $OEM$/$$/System32 folder? Does it still require registering?

Any help would be much appreciated!

3. Type "regsvr32 RemoveFocusRect.dll" (without the quotes) and press OK.

Yes it does. Maybe do it through RunOnceEx or svcpack?

Ah, okay, so it's DrawFocusRect() in USER32.DLL ... so, how can this be disabled? loc[a]lhost is nowhere to be seen ...

I really want to remove this damned focus rectangle on Windows 7 x64. :(

download a disassembler. open user32.dll, do a search for DrawFocusRect. you will see something like this.

http://des.virtualplastic.net/user32_dll_focusrect.png

in hexeditor, do a search for a bit of that you saw after "DrawFocusRect" then you need to change that part to 90's. but it is hard to tell what part exactly you need to change because it depends on version, language and some other things.

(90 means: nop = no operation)

Bump.

+1

ok. my mistake. open user64.dll or whatever file is this in 64bit os. but the method is the same. of course you need to use softwares that can open 64bit files. (hexeditor/disassembler)

It's still user32.dll. I think what he meant is that he doesn't understand what to do. Not everyone understands what you're saying.

Since Windows 3.11 or even earlier, we had this ugly focus rectangle shown in almost every window, and most annoyingly, on items that are selected and have different signs to tell us they are in focus.

So I made Universal Focus Rectangle Remover - a utility that will remove those focus rectangles completely from your system.

The new version supports x64 and Windows 7 flawlessly, and should work with any OS from Windows 2000 to Windows 7, and probably future versions as well.

Installation is also easier than ever in the new version, just run the setup and the rest is done for you.

Enjoy :)

Update:

2010-03-12: Updated to work on Windows Server 2008 R2.

    • The most consequential argument in technology right now is not about which model is smartest or which chip is fastest. It is about whether the entire enterprise is a generational revolution or the largest financial bubble ever inflated — and the unsettling answer, increasingly, is that it may be both at once.,,,, https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318138/20260610/ai-revolution-ai-bubble-trillion-dollar-question-splitting-wall-street-silicon-valley.htm This is a very good read.  I agree with the answer to the question.
    • LibreWolf 151.0.4-1 by Razvan Serea LibreWolf is an independent “fork” of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy security and user freedom. It is the community run successor to LibreFox. LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM. LibreWolf features: Latest Firefox — LibreWolf is compiled directly from the latest build of Firefox Stable. You will have the the latest features, and security updates. Independent Build — LibreWolf uses a build independent of Firefox and has its own settings, profile folder and installation path. As a result, it can be installed alongside Firefox or any other browser. No phoning home — Embedded server links and other calling home functions are removed. In other words, minimal background connections by default. User settings updates Extensions firewall: limit internet access for extensions. Multi-platform (Windows/Linux/Mac/and soon Android) Community-Driven Dark theme (classic and advanced) LibreWolf privacy features: Delete cookies and website data on close. Include only privacy respecting search engines like DuckDuckGo and Searx. Include uBlockOrigin with custom default filter lists, and Tracking Protection in strict mode, to block trackers and ads. Strip tracking elements from URLs, both natively and through uBO. Enable dFPI, also known as Total Cookie Protection. Enable RFP which is part of the Tor Uplift project. RFP is considered the best in class anti-fingerprinting solution, and its goal is to make users look the same and cover as many metrics as possible, in an effort to block fingerprinting techniques. Always display user language as en-US to websites, in order to protect the language used in the browser and in the OS. Disable WebGL, as it is a strong fingerprinting vector. Prevent access to the location services of the OS, and use Mozilla's location API instead of Google's API. Limit ICE candidates generation to a single interface when sharing video or audio during a videoconference. Force DNS and WebRTC inside the proxy, when one is being used. Trim cross-origin referrers, so that they don't include the full URI. Disable link prefetching and speculative connections. Disable disk cache and clear temporary files on close. Disable form autofill. Disable search and form history...and more. LibreWolf 151.0.4-1 changelog: Upstream release, see the Firefox 151.0.4 Release Notes Notable changes: DRM now uses a per-site permission, instead of allowing all requested sites access, when DRM is enabled. • AirPods Pro 3 are now available for only $179 by Taras Buria Apple's third-gen AirPods Pro 3 introduced a few important upgrades over the previous generation while retaining the old $249 price. Still, that is quite a lot of money for a pair of earbuds, but the good news is that right now, you can save quite a lot of money on them, thanks to a new all-time low price. AirPods Pro 3 retain their classic look and form factor, with changes focused on the inside. These earbuds now come with five sets of foam-silicone tips, which sit much more securely in your ear, making the earbuds a perfect choice for physical activities and workouts. Additionally, new tips provide better passive noise cancellation. Speaking of noise cancellation, ANC is now much better at blocking outside noise, with Apple claiming the AirPods Pro mute up to two times more sound than the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro 3 also have heart rate sensors for activity tracking during workouts. They also support Live Translation and Hearing Aid mode. As for battery life, you get up to 8 hours on a single charge, with the case adding 20 more. The case supports wireless (Qi or Apple Watch charger) and wired charging over USB Type-C (cable not included).
