crazy that I found this post by you, as I too just watched episode 1 and my first thought was.. I cannot keep watching this, way too many characters introduced in the first 30 minutes.  But after watching the full episode I have decided to at least finish season 1 so a co-worked of mine is brining in the blurays for me to start my binge

This linked image will help GREATLY in your enjoyment of the show. I referenced it at least 20 times over the course of Season 01 & 02. Probably way more.

The official HBO site has a good character break down website as well.

That's sooo true. Personally, I had to rewatch all of S1 just to figure out who did what when how.

+1

That plus re-casting of some characters (like Daario Naharis ) doesn't help :P

Tyrion is the man. Jamie is slowly proving himself to be the man as well. The rest of the Lannisters are scum.

That is all.

It really is so damn hard now having binge watched the first 34 episodes in 10 days having to wait a week between episodes.

DInklage was da bomb!

Totally! Gave me chills. I could literally feel all the emotions he was going through.

However they botched the Theon rescue scene. I watched it a couple times but couldn't make any sense of it. Seriously, it was so absurd it was funny. You really expect me to believe that the fearless Ironborn who hacked and slashed their way into enemy territory, with Theon within arms reach, ###### themselves and ran for their lives when Ramsey unleashed his dogs on them like they were being chased by a dragon. Four warriors, fully armored and equipped with swords vs two dogs. Right.

I think the reasoning was more along the lines that Yara realized Theon is so messed up it wasn't worth the risk and that for all intents and purposes, he is in fact as good as dead. But yeah, poorly handled. Ramsay going in the fight half naked, that was totally ridiculous. Like he had magic plot armor or something :shifty:

Same goes for the other big filler storyline the show-writers added in this year to keep some of the characters busy -- Craster's keep. You mean to tell me Karl would tease Jon about honor, but not mention the one actual ace up his sleeve he had -- Jon's little ######ing brother???

Overall minor complaints, and luckily they're done with filler for the season. The episode was still tight as hell, the scene with Theon following the escape attempt made my stomach turn. And as I said, Dinklage was da bomb.

My take was, they were in closed quarters and it was only a matter of time before they would be hopelessly trapped by dogs and steel. In that moment they were given to escape, it was clear the mission was over. There was no one to rescue. Theon is dead, total broken and manhood gone. He is now just a broke creature. Well done, well acted, well written, and very disturbing. I wouldn't put him out of his misery.

Agreed but the jury is still out on Jamie for me.

Good episode. Tyrion stole the show.

Just finished Season 1 after a 6 episode marathon on Saturday.  Was not thrilled with certain deaths but I suppose they were needed for the story to progress.

Heh better get used to that.. don't get too attached to some of the main characters.

Yeah, and they had already dispatched all of ramsey's men that were in the room, it was only him standing there not even waring armor, could have easily cut him down before he could dick around with keys and unleash the dogs.

There were two other guys still standing with the Bastard of Bolton.

The problem was fighting the dogs, and Ramsay, and the two men while trying to take Reek when he didn't want to go with them. Hard to do.
