Activision?s upcoming racer Blur will be the first game to allow PS3 and Xbox 360 players to compete against each other AND the first to offer online multiplayer for Silver members of Xbox Live Arcade.

That?s the headline claim being made by Bizarre Creations, though the mechanics of the functionality are a little more complicated.

In truth, integrated Twitter functionality will allow users to challenge one another ? no matter what platform they?re playing on ? over the social network.

In addition, Xbox 360 owners will be able to swap challenges via Xbox Live's message system regardless of their membership level.

?In the single player mode when you finish a race, it records all of your stats and information,? lead designer Gareth Wilson told MTV Multiplayer.

?You can choose what you want to put into your challenge and send it to your buddy. He receives that as an Xbox Dashboard message, so he could be playing another game, he could be watching TV on Netflix.

Awesome (Y)

Dunno how this was pushed through MS (online mp without gold), but I guess it has to be or the ruckus of PS3 owners are doing this for free would kick up.

It doesn't sound like anything any other game can't do. You record your single player race stats and send them to another person as a "challenge". It doesn't sound like you're actually physically racing someone else across systems or membership levels. That's how I'm reading it anyways.

Yup, which would explain why Silver members can play "online".

The headline has been taken out of context

Yeah, read it the same way. Still, pretty cool and overdue for this.

yeah i was thinking the same thing. where does it say silver subscribers can't actually play against gold members... (see what i did there?). PS3 vs Xbox is kinda cool though.

The wording isn't clear on it but it seems that is about two Xbox players playing asynchronous and not PS3 vs 360.

Not that I care about racing games or the way theyve opted to implement cross platform play here, but it would be kind of cool to release a cross platform competitive online game where teams were chosen not so much at random but purely based on what platform you were playing from at the time be it PC, PS3 or XBox. Obviously you'd want some level of balancing on top of that but it'd be interesting to see how people would approach such a game given some people can get so passionate about their system of choice. Sure that would lead to some pretty heated cross team banter.

    • In a major surprise there is actually some good deals for the first time in years. At least for me.
    • Limited time Prime Day deal cuts price of this Hisense 65" 4K smart TV in half by Ivan Jenic It’s Amazon Prime Day, and brands are offering great deals to consumers. One of the best deals of the day is definitely this Hisense 65" U7, which is currently $799.99 on Amazon, down from $1,499.99. That's nearly 50% off and $700 saved on this feature-packed 4K TV (purchase link down below). The U7 uses Mini-LED backlighting with up to 3,000 local dimming zones and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. That means blacks are truly deep and highlights are punchy enough to hold up even in bright rooms. The screen is covered with a dual-layer anti-reflection coating, which prevents the afternoon overhead lights from washing the picture. For gaming, the native 165Hz refresh rate and VRR 330 support make this one a great TV option for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The TV even features a native game mode, which should help minimize the input lag for a better gaming experience. Audio is handled by a 2.1.2 channel system tuned by Devialet, which is a notable partnership for a TV at this price. Additionally, Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Enhanced are all supported. It runs Fire TV with Alexa+ built in. So, if you’re looking for a sharp, large screen to watch the World Cup on, the U7 at this price is definitely an attractive option. Speaking of which, Hisense is the official sponsor of the World Cup, which should mean absolutely nothing to you, and isn’t the reason why you should by this TV. The reason why you should buy it is that it’s “la bella televisione, HDTV-compatible, beautiful,” and available at half the price.
