Sega delighted as action title performs strongly; Vancouver 2010 sales leap 274 per cent

Aliens vs Predator has become Sega?s fastest selling game in the company?s history.

The game was part of a bumper seven days for Sega last week. The firm?s Winter Olympic tie-in Vancouver 2010 saw sales leap 274 per cent following the opening of the sports event, while Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games has smashed through the 900,000 units barrier.

Furthermore, Football Manager 2010 has now sold 350,000 games in the UK.

?We are absolutely delighted with the strong first week sales of Aliens vs Predator,? said Sega UK managing director John Clark.

?We are also very pleased that Aliens vs Predator has become Sega?s fastest selling game to-date. With the exceptional level of pre-orders that had been achieved by launch, we had high expectations for the title and I am very pleased to say that it has delivered on those expectations.?

No wonder Activision is going to run Call of Duty into the ground!

On a serious note: how the hell is this Sega's fastest-selling game ever, with all the major franchises it has? I mean, yeah, its glory years were with the Genesis and there weren't as many consoles out (overall sales wise) then... but still...

My theory: crap games sell well because today's young gamers were raised playing crap games so they wouldn't know a truly great game if you beat them over the head with it.

I've been playing video games since the original Pong. I've seen it all and played them all, so I can say without a doubt that 90% of today's titles are trash compared to the games of the past.

AvP, for the fact it has three entirely different species with their own mechanics, HUD's and control schemes is incredibly well built for a First Person game. Sure, some things are a bit off but I'm honestly surprised it has turned out as well as it has. I have more problems with the matchmaking system than I do with the game itself. Tired of having 9 predators vs 3 of whatever.

according to wikipedia, the genesis has 6 million sold... the PS3 has 33.5 million sold... xbox360 has 39 million sold...

it will only be a matter of time before another game becomes Sega's fastest selling title ever...

AvP isn't mediocre - it's a great fan game.

Well all the reviews I saw that gave it bad reviews gave it bad reviews because

- no corner lean (err yeah, but these are colonial marines they just use big guns, they don't sneak, and the aliens are built to sneak and the predators have cloaking ... what)

- practically same game as AvP with updated graphics (So it's a clone of a great game updated to todays standard, it's what the fans wanted...)

- no iron sights (.... wtf, that doesn't even make sense for this game, why is that a requirement for good games anyway, just assume you're always holding the gun iron sighted when firing. this is a soldier afterall, they don't hip shoot, having a button to not hip shoot when you're a soldier is really just silly)

- to complex controls (yet you want them to be more complex... )

-old fashoned scripted gameplay

there's a few more in the same line, the reviews basically amounts to "the game isn't Modern Warfare, so we're giving it a low score" which is even sadder since MW2 dropped leaning as well(and this on the other hand is a game that should have had it. and MW itself is just a copy of the original Ghost Recon.

It's a classic game made for the fans of the classic with great multiplayer that was great then and great now. even though I do miss Marine nightvision and some stuff from the original(s),It'd be a lot more boring if it was like the reviewers wanted and was a clone of MW, but with aliens and predators...

Isn't this directly attributable to the enormous marketing campaign? I have been seeing advertisements all over and saying wtf naturally because I couldn't believe they would advertise like that for a game like this.

Must have been. Can't imagine how they must have marketed it though:

"FROM THE STUDIO THAT BROUGHT YOU: Rogue Warrior, Shellshock 2 and The Simpsons Game"

The game feels worse than Monoliths sequel back in 2001!

according to wikipedia, the genesis has 6 million sold... the PS3 has 33.5 million sold... xbox360 has 39 million sold...

it will only be a matter of time before another game becomes Sega's fastest selling title ever...

That's why I made the comment about there not being as many consoles out then. But I'm still surprised.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
