Ubisoft's new DRM cracked already

And THIS is what sucks about all the DRM companies are trying. It ends up affected legit buyers of the game and those who use the software properly, more than it does those who illegally obtain it or those who buy it, but use a crack to bypass the DRM.

rob.derosa - You do not need to turn off your internet, simply ignore the game launcher, using the game exe directly, or tell your firewall to block the game launcher and exe and your set to go.

Honestly, I paid for the game and the launcher and the DRM did not affect me at all. It doesn't do any background processes or services, so who really cares?

LOL so their DRM is cracked by simply opening the game directly... gotta laugh.

Wait until your internet connection drops for a minute or two and you are booted out of the game.

Thats what it sounds like....obviously the game exe itself was probably cracked so it doesn't sent anything to Ubisoft while your playing, but it sounds like a part of the crack involves bypassing the launchers connection to the internet, which can be done multiple ways.

But, I do not have the sources like the OP, so I cannot confirm thats exactly how it was bypassed, thats just what it sounds like from reading the earlier posts. :P

I don't know about DSL, but I've had my cable internet with the same modem since 2003 and it has never ever dropped before. Does that really still happen these days?

* bypass DOES include patching two files.

Yes, it happens. After playing MW2 online using other people's connections, you'll see that it happens quite often.

It certainly does....just last night my internet went on the fritz and was down for 5-10 minutes. Didn't last long, but it still would have booted me back to the main menu if I was playing a single-player game that requires internet access.....despite it only taking you back to your last checkpoint, it would have still been an inconvenience that can easily be avoided by A) using a cracked EXE (or 2, or whatever) or, B) Not using that type of DRM to begin with.

Now, it only happens once every month or so to me personally, but I live north west of North Charleston (not in the city, but not in the country either) and am with a fairly respectable ISP (Time Warner Cable / Roadrunner), so I guarantee people with less ISPs or out in the middle of nowhere probably have much more interruptions than I get, enough to disrupt playing a single-player game with the new Ubisoft DRM that its worth it to bypass the DRM all together.

The game's not even out yet, where did you buy it from?

Update : I have got AC2 Black sitting right next to me at the moment. I was just as surprised when my local EB Games rang me up this morning and said it's ready. I wasn't expecting it until next month!

So shiiiiiiiiiny. Now about that DRM...

...

I preordered from the Ubi site, and on 3 march I got a text that I could go pick it up at my local Game Mania that afternoon...

My uplay profile should you wonder :)

As far as I'm aware, this new DRM will be used in Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Silent Hunter 5. The fact that its been cracked is reason enough for developers to stop wasting time and money on futile DRM.

So it is a crack, not a simple bypass.

Still - pointless either way. I'm a paying customer and I feel forced into having to use these methods because I want to play on the go (no reliable internet connection).

No one is forcing you to play a game, I support cracked exe's with all my heart, heh, but don't ever say that you feel forced, that's just you trying to convince yourself that you're not doing anything wrong, don't worry, you're not, so don't make up excuses !

Although it is disappointing to see people buy the game AND oppose to this DRM, that's borderline hypocrisy.

I plan on buying Splinter Cell Conviction for the PC, but the first thing when I get it home would be cracking it so I can play it DRM free.

Ubisoft make great games, and ill support them as they continue to do so, but I will support crackers too. I buy a game, I wanna play it when I want, how I want, where I want.
