So here's my latest noggin scratcher...

I work in an radio production studio, and I download files from various FTP's and websites as part of my daily chores. I've got a couple websites that have daily mp3 files posted for me to download, everytime I do, they end up saving as mpeg files and not mp3. So now you're probably saying "it's the websites you're downloading from", not true, when I go to the other studio's across the hall from me, they download these same files as the proper mp3's. I've shown it to my IT guy, and even he was bewildered by it (i think all he said was "wtf!?")

Anyway, has this happened to anyone? any ideas or fixes? I'm running XP with internet explorer 7 (I don't get admin rights at work to upgrade anything, you know how it is in the big corporate office...), and I'm not allowed to use Firefox unfortunately :(

thanks all!

What happens if you take the file and rename the file extention to .mp3? Can you do that with the restrictions on your PC? Just a thought!

Ya I can rename them to *.mp3. It's kinda frustrating to do that everytime tho being that I process and use several dozen files downloaded from websites every day, so that basically slows me down productively speaking

So have you solved your latest noggin scratcher...???

grr, sorry for the no reply, im waiting on my IT guy to fiddle around with the registry stuff, but to me, this seems like it might be the fix, ill let you know for sure as soon as i find out! *fingers crossed*

    • The FIFA World Cup is not US centric.
    • It’s amusing how Microsoft is pushing IT admins as if this was a major, game-changing update. In reality, it’s just an enablement package that bumps the build number, which is disappointing compared to the more substantial 22H2 and 24H2 releases. Technically, 25H2, 26H1, and the upcoming 26H2 are essentially the same, differing only in support schedules. They could have included the Windows K2 improvements here, but chose not to. The era of Windows being in the backburner continues, and this 26H2 release feels like an afterthought. Shame, Nadella, shame.
    • Microsoft, totally not confusing /s 25H2 - Current for non-Arm based Windows 26H1 - Current for Arm based Windows 26H2 - Only for non Arm Windows
    • After I installed those, my older but capable Win 11 laptop (16GB RAM) reported it as 26H2 26300.8697. Then I installed it on my big laptop (128GB RAM! Hehe sorry), it reported it as 25H2 26220.8690. Ugh. Do I have to switch Insiders channels from Release to Beta?
