I would have given MSE a try, i think that's the best when it comes to the free ones. As for paid stuff, ESET NOD32 is king in my book.

Glad you got it taken care of now tho. Now the only question is: Are you going to format?

I don't run an antivirus because I can manually remove any processes that are effected. I know what apps are running in my background, and if something seems to running "Funnily", I'll delete it and the accompanying files and then run MBAM (Malwarebyes Anti-Malware) to remove the rest of the garbage that's associated.

Also; you'd be a fool to format after an infection. Most infections (such as the one you had) only accumulate it's own files and doesn't actually intend to "infect" your system.
