OCD about sorting files...

Don't know if this is the right forum to start this topic but still...

Does anybody else have an OCD with sorting files on their computer?

Audio, Video, Pictures, Documents, Bookmarks, Emails, Software... I MUST have everything in perfect order: perfectly named and organized.

I have to have all of my audio CDs ripped with the sale quality settings... if I download a song, I download all the version from all the known places, then sort through them to find the one with the highest quality, the same with videos.

It takes so much time, I truly admire people who can just throw their files somewhere and be done with it.

My Downloads = Place for files I want to keep

My Documents = Place for files I might want but probably wont

Music in My Music, good quality but not obcessed by it

Picture in pictures, named as I found them unless 2 are called the same thing, then one gets a number at the end

Apart from that, nope

Yeah I'm quite like that. It does take time, but on the other hand, I can't remember when I last had to use the search functionality to find anything on my computers because everything's already all logically laid out :)

Agreed, I don't use search or tags at all either.

VERY much so about my music.

SAME here, I must say. I have all my music like so: Folder for Artist, in Artist, a folder for each Album, and the albums, the exact same naming scheme -> 01 Name of the Song.mp3. Like this:

post-427-12689241186443_thumb.png

No dashes, no artist name in the song name. Of course, I use MP3Tag for that work. And I can't stand having poorer quality than 192 Kbps. If I rip my own, it's always 320 CBR.

I wouldn't say I'm OCD about my Documents, but I do like keeping things organized in subfolders according to categories (Computer Docs, Financial Docs, etc.)

My wife is the wiz with organizing the Pictures folder.

I have a Similar OCD I guess.. Mines more about keeping everything tidy and in place though. On my Computer and wherever I go.

I was up at 4am-5am the other morning cleaning my room and the rest of the house because I couldn't fall asleep unless it was clean.

I'm very pick with how my music is organized. I even have it separated down to genre. So it's Genre > Artist > Album > Songs. And then, I have to have the ID3 tags formatted a certain way. With songs that have guest appearances, it's: Song Title (Featuring <Artist>) (Produced By <Producer's Name>). With the folders, it's: <Artist Name> - <Album Name> (<Year>). I do this so I can easily recognize the structure. Sometimes I may want to listen to something or find something from a specific year. Some will say that's too much info, but I like knowing who produced a song (I listen to mostly rap/r&b, and sometimes I may want to just listen to songs someone like Timbaland or the Neptunes produced, not just specific songs from an artist). Oh, and I need to have the album art too.

Yes, in particular about my music...

<<SERVER NAME>>\MUSIC\<<ARTIST NAME>>\<<ALBUM NAME>>\#TRACK NUMBER# - <<TRACK NAME>>.MP3

EG:

\\SERVER\MUSIC\NINA SIMONE\THE BEST OF\06 - FEELIN? GOOD.MP3

Dude, you should also add album years in there.
