I can't seem to figure this out. I have my desktop in my room and I have my school laptop in my living room hooked up to my magnificent speaker system. We are going to have a party soon and I wanted to be able to control the music played on my laptop from my room's desktop. I tried LogMeIn but their service is sh*t especially since it is only a trial to use the remote sound crap and even in the trial it doesn't work.

I was wondering if there was some sort of remote access software or web-service that would allow me to remotely access from my laptop to my desktop and listen to the whatever audio the host plays (in this case my desktop). That way I can just change the music on the desktop and the laptop will automatically stream. TeamViewer works for video but not audio unless I was willing to place a mic on one of the speakers in my room and go with an Voice IP connection (which would lead to bad quality sound).

Any suggestions? Also, my laptop doesn't have administrator rights, more like power user rights and so it shouldn't be an application that demands administrator rights. Please and thank you guys.

Why don't you just remote control the laptop and have it play whatever you want?? Teamviewer, Remote Desktop, VNC, etc.. etc.. they will allow you to do this.. You make it more difficult than it is..

Just remote the machine connected to the speakers, and have it play whatever you want.. Be it local to that laptops HDD, some music site like pandora, or playing files off the PC HDD with a simple file share.

I don't have the music on my laptop (it's a school laptop with no administrative rights). All of the remote desktop software you mentioned simply provide viewing the host's video, not streaming its audio. I can't use Remote Desktop because that would need administrator rights.

I'm just looking for a remote desktop-like software/service that allows me to connect to my desktop and simultaneously stream the audio played on that desktop from my laptop. The laptop is in the living room connected to the speakers.

Desktop plays music -> laptop listens to music played by desktop via remote session -> audio system in living room listens to what the laptop listens (via headphone cable) -> presto MUSIC in living room. I can't find software that will make this happen (free).

Desktop is Windows 7. Set up Windows Media Player's streaming service.

Then on Laptop (WinXP w/ limited rights) run VLC's Media Player PORTABLE from PortableApps.com. No admin rights needed, just a USB stick (or folder on the desktop). Set it to listen to the stream from the Windows 7 Media Player, and vola. :shiftyninja:

And for the record, YES, you can use Remote Desktop. You don't need admin rights to *view* your Desktop (does need Win7 Professional or Ultimate), and you can stream audio through it. Open Remote Desktop Connection (the application), click "options","Local Resources", "Bring sound to this computer".

"host's video, not streaming its audio."

JFC dude its not rocket science -- Your remote controlling the laptop.. HAVE IT PLAY THE MUSIC..

Map a freaking drive to where you music is on the your PC - and play with the remote control software just like you were standing in front of the laptop.

Do I need to draw you a picture???

He'd need admin rights to change the network name to be on the same network as his Desktop to see the shared drive. :pinch: I was thinking the same though.

"'He'd need admin rights to change the network name to be on the same network as his Desktop to see the shared drive"

  What ?? Does not mater if the laptop is on domain X or workgroup Y -- that has absolutely NOTHING to do with accessing a share off his PC -- NOTHING!!! You do not need to change anything... Workgroup names have NOTHING to do with file sharing NOTHING!!!! And does not matter if the machines are in 2 different domains, etc.. As long as you have an account to AUTH with you can get access!!

Arggghhh - how is it that something so simple people make so freaking difficult.

Share your freaking music on the PC, be it with a file share, be it through media player - either will work!!

Then use whatever remote control or for that mater remote assistance from the XP laptop -- from your PC, or anywhere else you might want to be - do you want me to control your laptop and play your music for you?? Run teamviewer on the laptop -- and then give me the info and I will play some music for you ;) Off my network if you want, or pandora, music shared off your PC, etc..

Your remote controlling the laptop -- launch your fav music player on the laptop and play what ever music you want -- it will come out your speakers!! You don't need audio from your PC to go to your laptop -- your LAPTOP is the device playing the audio file!!

Forget it. You are making it too simple. This is a school laptop, with Anti-Executable and DeepFreeze. I have control panel, and just about every possible system program disabled on this account. I can't create a network, or remote access session. I can only use the programs installed on the laptop that the IT departments wants me to use. Sure I can open other executable files, only if I change their names to "notepad" so that it bypasses AE's filters. In addition, I can access the internet. That's about it.

****, if I could map a network between my desktop and laptop I would have done so a long time ago. I'm not making it difficult, it is just that difficult... But forget it. You are a very temperately naive man. I'm going to just put everything on my iPod and execute Virtual DJ from my laptop. I won't be able to control my laptop remotely but at least I'll get the music going.

but I think the problem is that the media itself is actually on the desktop machine.

why don't you put the music on your desktop in a shared folder and access it from the laptop? Why would you want to make it more difficult than that :s

yes you are making it difficult

1) share folder on your desktop

2) go to your laptop

3) open explorer on laptop

4) input \\ipaddressdesktop in address bar

5) provide login of your desktop (you must have a password on your desktop or it won't work)

6) play files

i really don't see how that is difficult

2) go to your laptop

4) input \\ipaddressdesktop in address bar

5) provide login of your desktop (you must have a password on your desktop or it won't work)

6) play files

That's what I thought - the laptop can't be locked down to the point where you can't access a share?

Well it can, but that would be really irritating....!

"You are a very temperately naive man"

For starters did you bother to make mention that you could not even run exe without renaming them?? No!! you did not, what you said is you have power user on the laptop.. There is a HUGE freaking difference between power user and a box locked down to the point where you can not even run an exe.

Even so -- Im with xerxis, did they lock it down where you can not access a file share?? Your clearly getting an IP from your network if you can use the internet, and used logme in to access your desktop I guess, etc.. So power user on a XP box would clearly be able to access a file share off another machine -- that since its your PC, should me you have full admin and the ability to create shares, etc.

People can not help you with DETAILS!!!

You state you can browse the web on this laptop that is locked down.. Well then as already mentioned install TVersity on you PC... And just use the web interface to stream the audio from your PC to your laptop.

http://tversity.com/support/devices/

The TVersity Media Server allows any device with a web browser to access the media library and download or stream the multimedia content of the library

Can not give you the solutions to your problem if we don't have the DETAILS of your constraints. You mentioned using remote control software, and that you "remotely access from my laptop to my desktop and listen" With this info -- then yes.. Remote control your laptop with say teamviewer, the power user mode you stated you had allows you to run this.. And then access the files off your desktop that you have shared out.. You don't need to stream them! Just freaking play them on the laptop, etc.. This would do what you ask -- from your OP, how is anyone suppose to know that you can not do this??? You did not give the details of your lock down, etc. So are you saying you can not run teamviewer on your laptop?? rename it notepad - does that work? ;)

Your the one making it difficult - for starters trying to use a laptop that clearly they do not want you using for personal use ;) in the first place -- and not giving the details required to help you with your problem.. And being so closed mined that your streaming method would be the only solution, etc.

Here i give few details about your need first you need to Creates wireless network for all your computers (if you have more than 1) than Allows all computers access to wireless broadband internet access, than Used with Itunes, it outputs wireless bit-perfect info to the DAC,It's a great source if matched with a proper DAC and amp.

HI All

Somewhat similar question here but here's what i am lookimg to do

I have a laptop at home(with full admin rights) and my office desktop which has ubuntu(dont have root access only sudo access). Now in my office ubuntu i have installed Win XP within VMware (again have full admin right for XP). I access my win XP virtual machine with teamviewer. I can access everything but what i want is:

  1. If i stream youtube/any video online on Win XP (virtual machine) i should hear the audio here on my laptop through teamviewer or any other addon or so.
  2. Once i download any video content or a song (again on Win XP virtual machine) how can i hear audio for that?

Also i have my Win XP machine behind NAT in VM i.e some private ip of 192.168.x.x range. Will that make a differance?

Any thoughts on that.

"I access my win XP virtual machine with teamviewer."

I am at a complete and utter loss to why your doing how your doing it in the first place.. WHY and the hell would you remote a VM at the office to watch/listen to video that is ONLINE??

Why don't you just connect directly to the video source with your laptop?? Why is the VM in the middle?

Normally trying to watch a video over a remote session is BAD!!! BAD!!! Quality is normally skippy and just not good at all - and that is when it works ;) I would think the audio the least of the issues.

But yes RDP allows for audio of the remote machine to be heard by the machine doing the remote access.

Why don't you give us the reason your doing it the way your doing it, and maybe we can give you a completely better solution to what your wanting to accomplish. Because I am having a hard time understanding why you would ever want to do such a thing!

    • I've always preferred this possibility. There is something that feels good about the idea that all matter in the universe will eventually come back together and maybe even result in another big bang. The idea that the universe would fizzle out over the eons and forever drift apart is a little depressing. I realize it is not logical to let a basic human desire for life to have a grand everlasting meaning change the way I feel about a scientific theory, but I am human, so that is how I feel :-).
    • Windoze 11 could finally go to hell, instead of making me savor yet another error I've never had. "Bad Pool Caller" or whatever TF cryptic crap0la message it is. Adding salt to injury, it says something along these lines (on the blank black screen after it hard stops): "Your windoze needs to restart. You can restart." NO WAY SHERLOCK. The PEECEE, look, it's *blocked*, I can do jack sh1t with it as it is and you say that it needs to restart? Further, that I can restart? What am I supposed to do, take a herbal bath? Sudo a sandwich? Timewaster pile of useless slop and errors, coded by monkeys and force-fed on us by a pedo-founded corporation, that's all there is to it. Now, let's have a fun weekend trying to handle the error, which after a quick internet check can basically be due to EVERYTHING, from memory faults to drivers to motherboard issues. Thanks M$.

It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces.
