Does my processor support 64-bit?

Ok guys I have downloaded EVEREST and I got to looking at the information for my processor and it seems that it is compatible with 64-bit. Below is a screenshot and I was wondering if someone could confirm this for me or not.

The Celeron 585 supports Intel 64, which is a fancy way of saying x64.

Like everyone has said, it does. I assume you are wanting to throw more than 3.5GB of RAM in that machine, is that your reason for wanting x64 ?

I think the older Intel processors don't support x64 natively, but can emulate? it in a way. Either or, your processor's well enough on running 64 bit apps.

But unless you have something specific to run, or want to put more than 3 gigs of ram in your comp, I recommend you stick to x86 until you get a new rig. Judging by your processor's socket, your computer's long overdue for an upgrade/replacement.

This is kinda like what I wanted to say at first. Something along the lines of "Who cares ? That CPU is so bad, you can throw 6GB of RAM at it & it will still be a ridiculous bottleneck you cant get around.." or something like that. But I decided not to because there are always some people who will chime in with "I hava Celeron and I play WoW with no problem", or "TEX4S, youre such a computer snob, not everyone can afford ....." So I just typed what I did.

But I still say Celeron :x

Hes on a laptop i dont think its as simple as buying a core i7 chip and board :p

The modern celerons are pretty decent beasts they are all based on Core 2 arch so its not ALL bad.

+1. I have an E3200 which I have overclocked to 3.66GHz :devil: . A $50 chip performing on par with my E8400@4Ghz. :woot: And don't forget, these new 45nm Celeron Dual Cores out perform their older 65nm brother, the former Pentium Dual Core with its higher clock speed, 45nm architecture, same cache size, and even has virtualization technology and all the energy saving functions (Speed Step, C1E, C2E, C3E, C4E). For once, Intel didn't cripple a Celeron chip.

This is true. I have never owned a Celeron chip and personally I thank the man upstairs that I have had the finances to afford a proper CPU because I don't think I could handle the almost comical on-board cache sizes......

They are fit for purpose though, web browsing and simple photo editing doesnt require massive amounts of l2 cache.

Agreed. Ideal for people who are on a budget or just what a PC to do the meanial daily habits etc.

Thanks guys, I got the laptop for $300 bucks at Best Buy because my dad worked for Geek Squad at the time and it was a laptop that had a bad keyboard and it was sent off and refurbished. Anyways the thing runs better than my moms Dell that has a Core2Duo with 4gb of Ram so idk. :p Thanks again for the replies :)
