The tranfer kit is the original microsoft one. Thats the normal one. The off brands you can find online. Im surprised you can find em in store. If by 2nd hand you mean used then im sure someone must of traded it in. But the one you got is the "real deal".

Traded in ones sold separate or with 60GB & 120GB HDD's (Shrink wrapped).

Only seen two before and they both had Xbox style white plastic down them, guess unofficial or import?

I am jealous. I just got a 60gb drive off a mate (his wife won't let him on his 360 so he never uses it) and i bought a transfer cable off of ebay, which turned out not to be a Microsoft one, using the software supplied it was an utter nightmare getting 12gb of data switched between the two. i lost save games for Forza 3 (I was on season 18  ) and my daughter was miffed that her Viva Pinata save was corrupt. I also had to restore our profiles cos the new one didn't like them.

I had to re-install some games as well. But after a day and a half I managed to get a reasonably usable XBOX360.

Then Microsoft did that update on the 6th of April which allowed all yer crap to be transferred by a USB stick. BARSTEWARDS.

Everything transfered over ok, it did skip installed (from DVD) games though.

The 250GB HDD comes pre-loaded with the following:

Video

Welcome to Xbox Live (2010)

Forenza 3 Customised Car E3 2009

Arcade

Hexic HD

Peggle (Trial)

Geometry Wars 2 (Trial)

Pinball (Trial)

Pacman (Trial)

Transfers content from my Sandisk 4GB faster than the 60GB did, there is no 3 second delay between selecting Transfer and it actually doing the transfer.

Nice. I've had my 250 GB hard drive for a couple of weeks now, and it's definitely a nice upgrade from the 20 GB drive. The first thing I did (after transferring my contents) was install Forza 3 to the hard drive, and then install all of the extra content that came with the game as well. I couldn't do that with my old drive, since it was so full :).

After I finished the transfer, I had a message on the screen telling me that some of my data (on the old drive) was corrupt and was therefore not transferred. I have no idea what that data was, though. All of the important stuff (Mass Effect 1, 2 saves, Dragon Age saves) seems to be intact though, so I'm not too worried about it.

nice one Aergan, thanks for posting this. So it moved all your arcade games as-is? saved game positions as well?

already ordered one of these but it's taking its sweet time getting here. this is a good thing to have for what i believe will be the last couple of years with the 360 until the X3ox comes out. Yep you read it here first. X3ox.

anyway, also tired of listening to the poor DVD grind in MW2. time to give the dude some time off. nice thread once more!

No probs.

Used the Transfer Disc, transferred all my games on demand (Assassins Creed), arcade game purchases (R-Type, Sonic 1, 2, 3, S&K), saved games, gamer pics, themes etc. All licences carried over, can play any purchased content with any account on the Xbox still.

Only thing it skipped were the Installed Games. Have installed FFXIII (3 Discs), Batman: DA, Street Fighter IV, Fable II & Devil May Cry 4 so far.

£66.59 from Amazon UK (Pre-order Discount & Free Express delivery via Prime).

Thought about hacking a drive but I've tried to keep everything legit so far as I share the Xbox with my Mrs & our two kids.

Wanted the extra space for demos and to install most of our games onto as our one year old is facinated by the DVD-ROM drive read noises and belives it requires his immediate attention for hands-on investigation.

hey Aergan, finally got my 250GB and plugged it in over the weekend. migration took 30 minutes, it moved everything except the second Forza 3 disc, which i had installed. Works like a charm so far, installing games is great, the console's practically silent this way. Good on the poor old DVD drive. And the sense of freedom - so intense i almost took my pants off the first evening!

good, sound like you're also pleased with your purchase, that's the point. i could justify this one, so i went for it and it makes me feel all gooey inside. it even came with the excellent Hexic HD free. Yes, the same game i got free with the 20GB back in 2006. that's beautiful.

looool. Hexic HD wow, they could have created a whole new game just for that HD release!

    • Are they marketed as an entry into astronomy or astrophotography? I do astrophotography. With big rigs, lots of computers, cables and headaches. I love it. And by learning this ridiculously complex hobby, I’ve learned about the objects I’m shooting. Astronomy followed from photography.
    • Microsoft confirms Recycle Bin bug across all versions of Windows by Usama Jawad A couple of days ago, we reported that the latest Patch Tuesday update has seemingly resulted in a lot of issues for many users, including OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, and BSODs. Although Microsoft is yet to acknowledge these bugs, it has confirmed another, relatively smaller issue across all supported versions of Windows. In an update on its Windows Release Health Dashboard, Microsoft has confirmed that after installing June's Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126), you'll experience unexpected behavior when leveraging Recycle Bin. Basically, when you attempt to delete an item from the Recycle Bin, the confirm dialog will show you the internal file name of that content rather than the actual name. For example, the file may be named abc.png, but the confirm dialog will ask if you're sure that you want to permanently delete $Rxxxxx.png from the Recycle Bin. This is pretty much it for the scope of the bug itself; it just displays the wrong name in the confirm dialog. The correct name will be shown in the list view of the Recycle Bin and if you restore the file, it will return with the correct name as well. This issue affects pretty much all supported versions of Windows client and server, including: Client: Windows 11, version 26H1; Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2; Windows 11, version 23H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 Server: Windows Server 2025; Windows Server 2022; Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016; Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012 As things currently stand, Microsoft is working on a concrete solution that will be released in a "future" Windows update. It remains to be seen if the firm will wait till the next Patch Tuesday or roll out an out-of-band (OOB) fix. The good news is that commercial customers can deploy a workaround right now, but they will have to reach out to Microsoft Support for Business for additional details.
    • They said by this time everyone will have flying cars. WELL...
    • A study by physicist Henry Tye of Cornell University suggests that the universe may not expand forever. Instead, it could eventually stop expanding, begin contracting and end in a "Big Crunch" roughly 20 billion years from now. Maybe not as we now know that time can flow backwards.
    • Of course. Simply reverse the polarity.
