How come now that I installed Irfanview all the PNGs that I get from here are saved as BMPs? They also keep the grey backgrounds behind them.

Hmm, thats weird. Just make sure when you right click on them, select save target as and make sure it saves as a PNG or otheriwse if there is no option for that, put filename.png at the end. (just the .png part). ;)
