I reinstalled Windows 7 on my sister's PC recently, and having done so quite a lot of times in several computers... this is the first time this problem arise.

The problem arises with a wireless in a cafe bar. MSN, torrents etc. all work except browsing webpages. However all other laptops around here work fine, it's just this one.

Also, when I go to another wireless cafe it works well. I can't identify where is the problem. Can anyone help me?

Windows 7 is an operating system, not a web browser. So what, pray all, are you using to browse the web?

"won't open webpages" is not an error. Tell us what the error is.

When I say 'Windows 7', didn't you get that I meant ALL browsers? Oh well, now you know.

Possibly the type of security?

What do you mean? MSN and torrents work.

Could really be a multitude of reasons why.. DNS settins, a program blocking etc..

First check if you haven't changed the proxy settings.

Control panel - Internet options - Connections tab - LAN settings..

There make sure the proxy server dialogue box is unchecked...

I should mention that right after I reinstalled W7, I made a LAN connection between this laptop and my PC to transfer some files. But I removed all the configuration I did and reverted back to default. I'm gonna recheck now.

EDIT: Seems everything is alright.

Proxy settings? Ran the connection troubleshooter?

It says windows is correctly configured but the device or bla bla (http://www.msn.com) is not responding.

Didn't say earlier that MSN worked?

Didn't say earlier that MSN worked?

I meant Messenger xP.

Win 7 isn't the problem, the WiFi your connected to probably blocks the web weirdly, but allows other things

Yeah but it works fine for others.

Sometimes like at hotels- if you don't have a receipt with a code on it. It may let only certain traffic through without going to that page and punching in the code- Possibly buy a drink and it will have the daily code-... Just a thought.

I got the code. That isn't the issue.

I still got this issue even after a clean install. It's being very annoying. Everybody can connect and browse http webpages but I can't. I can only access ftp and other protocols.

I have no programs installed. What could be the problem?

did you change the dns server to use open dns's?sometimes the default dns in windows gets confused, also open a cmd prompt and type ping www.google.com and see if you get a response and a default gateway.
