2 mouse pointers on 1 pc

U Xero,

why do you want two mouse pointers (out of pure interest, maybe I want two!)?

Do you have a dual monitor setup?

Edit:

I've read a bit more and am even more interested now (although from what I've read, it appears impossible because of the way the current OS's and applications' framework are built).

Having two mice to control one computer (but two monitors), i.e. two users adjacent in a family setting, sounds good, in fact really good.

It will probably happen in the not too distant future, notwithstanding the fact that actually it won't be the same computer. This is assuming that computers ultimately become displays (for the most part) whilst processing is done elsewhere (either in the house [perhaps initially] or externally [how it will almost certainly work ultimately]).

In the meantime, based on my immediate googling, obvious hurdles that are not easily overcome by some kind of 'silver-bullet' app or mouse server include:

- where does the keyboard focus go? Or do you immediately then allow for multiple keyboards?

- no software recognises multiple mouse movements or clicks: even if you go to such a basic level as movement or position, applications (or the OS) recognise X & Y, mouseover, mouse click, etc. How to get past this problem?

I'm well out of my depth, but read this interesting thread on slashdot:

http://multitouchvista.codeplex.com/

This is enables multitouch functionality by using 2 mouse...but not sure whether it helps your need..

I used it to install the multitouch windows pack, in which i like both the Microsoft lagoon (screensaver) and that pond app :-)

ah OK - perhaps the separate use of XBMC negates my other points, which are probably more relevant if you have two mice interacting with one Windows setup (or indeed one Linux or OS X setup).

How does XMBC work (briefly) or at least in this respect?
