Enable better font smoothing on some LCD displays in Snow Leopard

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Quick question here. I've got a 22inch Samsung SyncMaster 2243 hooked up to my 13inch MBP (it's the one just before the new ones came out) and basically my second monitor looks horrid compared to the mac in the sense that the fonts look "too crisp" for example I can see the little pixels at the bottom of the letters in some fonts which is quite annoying.

After doing some research I found this post: http://www.macworld.com/article/145157/2009/12/smoothsnow.html - which seems to address my problem and provide a solution.

My question is though if this doesn't work - how would I revert it back to the previous settings?

Is it as simple as re-entering:

defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 0

Is there a way to completely disable the ClearType style on OS X in SL? I kind of miss XP because of that.

Just to clarify: you mean completely disable all font smoothing?
