fourthe
I ordered a windows 7 professional 32 bit key awhile back not expecting to build a new computer but of course now im planning on building a new PC soon. If i were able to get a windows 7 professional 64 bit install CD and of course uninstall the 32bit version, will the same 32bit key work on the 64bit install ? Sorry if this is confusing, im trying to explain this the best that i can. Thanks. Denis W. Veteran Posted April 30, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 30, 2010 Yes, your key should work on the 64-bit disc. SaltLife
Don't think so, each variation in the past has always been different. At least in sequence. I was in the same boat, but just dealt with it, until I purchased a mac. (had a core2duo laptop) Yes, your key should work on the 64-bit disc. think he is right, google turns up other responses that claim it's interchangeable. I did digital river, so I didn't get both versions included. Perhaps I'll contact them. kjx
There is no difference. They are interchangable. I know from trying it first hand and successfully activating. I hope they didn't screw you over... :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/896844-is-there-a-difference-between-32bit-and-64bit-window-7-keys/#findComment-592561558 Share on other sites
+Xomkey Subscriber² Posted April 30, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 30, 2010 I bought a Windows 7 32-bit key from Digital River and used it to install the 64-bit version. It worked just fine. SaltLife
Nothing but problems, well that doesn't sit well. Not sure what the outcome will be yet, I'll contact them tomorrow and see if I can download 64bit... I actually bought it pre-release so that I got the huge discount. I know I also had them do the 5 year download so that way I wouldn't have to worry about losing the darn disk lol. But as I said, I do have a mac now, so I'm not that hard pressed on if they'll allow it. The new machine runs better because it has newer and higher spec'd components then the laptop that I would upgarde 7 on. I bought a Windows 7 32-bit key from Digital River and used it to install the 64-bit version. It worked just fine. Thanks, I'm more concerned of obtaining a copy of Win 7 64bit legally, rather than 'borrowing' or 'downloading' from somewhere. I'd want assurance that it's legit. Growled Member Posted April 30, 2010 Member Share Posted April 30, 2010 There is no difference. They are interchangable. I know from trying it first hand and successfully activating. Me too. I installed both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the same disk onto the same computer. One key for both.
