I've only barely played with beta 1 on Mac, but I've seen the Tab Candy video and seen the current Mac mockups, and was wondering will it be possible (via Stylish script or other means) to move the tabs into the title bar on Mac like I've seen on the Windows screenshots in this thread?

not yet i don't believe

postponed to Wednesday July 29th now:(

Acutally it's Thursday the 29th

As long as it's a good release, I moved back to FF4 B1 because I missed some of my extensions (which work with it) miss app tabs already!

Exactly, no need to rush a beta release just to get out on that date.

True , we must remember that 4.0 is a major release and no one would like it to be buggy. Even if we have 2~3 betas , but of top quality , it doesn't matter much. Also , if a feature is not going to land in 4.0 , then there is always 4.1 :)

Firefox 4 Beta 2 will break a good number of your extensions because XPCOM will be in that build.

Depending on how many extensions you have/how old they are/etc that number could be pretty big :3

At least, I think XPCOM will be in Beta 2

It will be, the XPCOM changes landed not long after Beta 1 was built.

Yeah, I use Minefield so I already went through the huge breakage a while back.

I don't keep too up to date with mainstream firefox releases so I wasn't 100% sure if XPCOM was Beta 2 or Beta 3.

It should provide some fun comments when Beta 2 gets released :p

Just in case people missed it, Soapy/Boneyard released an alpha of their newest theme "Minimal" in the OS Customization area. Firefox 4 Beta 1 / Minefield only.

I sure did miss it. I've been waiting to try it out, thanks!

Pretty nice. I wouldn't have thought of doing it that way. (Y)

Anyone having problems with IDM and youtube? 4.0b2

Yes! IDM does not work properly in in Beta 2. It does catch links if you enable advanced browser integration as if you were trying to use Chrome in the IDM browser selection menu. It will not work for flash though. The last build with flash downloading is Beta 1.

I saw that to, given that Mozilla never meets its schedules I can't see them keeping to that.

They do put more effort into stability than their competitors though. I'd rather wait for a stable default browser, Have you noticed since the inception of 4.0 series that they are rock solid aside from some addons. I have been using alpha with no issues!

Pity, I was pretty happy with beta 2 so far. Will it be fixed, or is it up to IDm?

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
