I haven't done any actual benchmarks, but personally, on both my OSX and Windows Machine, I find Beta 8 to be faster than the current Chrome 10 beta. It's running nicer and nicer with each update. :)

Let's hope firefox gets even faster!

Really hope they move the tabs into the title bar at some point in the future, after using Chrome it is probably the one thing I would want changed, such a waste of screen space on my Macbook.

They will, maybe even in beta9 :)

In the meantime you can place them in titlebar with some script.

man i am so sick of this firefox sync.

they remove the status bar in the latest builds, and there is no way of telling if firefox sync is running or not. i set it up to replace all data on this computer, and its been 30+ min and still nothing.

im gettin ready ot just scrap firefox sync and go with xmarks.

if you open the customization window, among the buttons you'll see the sync button. On windows 7 it animates while syncing, I don't know about other OS'es

1.0.11 Has many bugs in 4 beta 8/9.

Version 1.1 beta 2 fixed the most important ones.

I haven't run into any problems with the older one yet, but I'm going to install this so I won't have to look for this link later. :p

Thanks for the heads-up.

any links to benchmarks of beta 8 vs beta 7? Arewefastyet.com hasn't been updated in many weeks.

Well basically http://www.arewefastyet.com/ shows it.

The best is what you are currently using with Beta 8. Beta 7 is off the latest chart scale. That is why Beta 8 feels so much faster, ( Javascript Wise )

Anyone noticed that with beta 8 there is some black square background around some flash items that shouldn't be there?I think this has to do with asynchronous plugins or something like that.( i don't remember how it was called).

I don't understand the addonbar at all. We shouldn't have to work so hard modifying it with stylish because it was only supposed to be big enough to fit the icons placed in it and expand or contract dynamically. Instead we have... a status bar with a different name? What was the point? Why is it so difficult to Mozilla to implement their mockups properly? The concept and graphics are done and then they refuse to implement them. I like Fx 4, but the addon bar is going to serve the same purpose as the status bar: to be completely hidden and never used.

There are still some GUI issues to fix yet, give it (sigh, more) time :)

I keep hearing people gloat about has fast it is, but how is the text rendering? Has it improved? I've tried beta 6 and 7 but couldn't stick with it because pages look like crap.

I still don't think it's anything to write home about, but it seems as though it may have improved slightly from previous versions. Either that, or I've just become accustomed to it.

Yeah, it's because of async painting. It's actually a Flash issue, just uncovered by the changes (before Firefox worked out the alpha channel by itself, now it's using the one Flash provides, which turns out to be wrong in some cases)

It's still using DirectWrite, so unless Microsoft have changed it it'll be the same.

    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
