I thought they'd fixed slow start up times?

Been using beta 12 for about a week (fully clean install), and it's gone back to taking up to 7 seconds to start (Phenom II X955 BE, 4GB 800mhz RAM). Not good enough really. I've had Chrome installed on the same machine and used it daily for about 6 months, and it starts in less than a second.

Mine starts at about 4-6 seconds. Chrome (with extensions and web apps) loads its window in a snap but is irresponsive for about 2 seconds (bookmarks does not load right away). With all due respect, I don't really get this hate for firefox merely because it takes roughly 5-7 seconds at startup cause it's not as if opening your browser (warm boot) is a matter of life and death to the point that 7 seconds is so precious. A browser isn't all about start up time (again, warm boot). But then again, as I've said before, browser choice is all about user satisfaction so I respect other people's views.

exactly , who wants f1 for a long peaceful journey and not a limo :|

My bad. I meant memory. High memory usage to me is about 200,000k, with one or two tabs open after a few minutes of usage.

That doesn't sound too crazy, if you're navigating around sites during those few minutes.

What do you mean by fully clean install exactly? No existing profile?

Edit: I feel like I should mention, on a new profile I started with Fx4 beta back in October (but with many synced bookmarks from another laptop, upgraded through to RC1), my startup times (with several addons, and about 10-15 immediate tabs) are about 1-2 seconds for everything to appear. (Followed by sites finishing loading). It certainly doesn't feel slow.

Then use Chrome, because it starts in less then a second. Isn't it just wonderful?

To be honest it can be done quicker it depends on the conditions.

I have Firefox 4b set to open up with all previous tabs when I start it and it clears active logins and cache when it closes. If I close it now with 20 tabs open and open it again it loads in 1 second and all 20 tabs are fully loaded and drawn in 5.

From a fresh reboot of Windows it took 3 seconds to open and 10 for every page to be loaded and drawn.

The page loading/drawing is also a factor caused by the size of my hosts file (~600kb)

I am still using Beta 12, and when using the find box to search the page it will at times find a match with in a link, and because that link is highlighted the little status address thing pops up and covers the highlighted word.

Not seeing that issue - I don't get a link target popup when Ctrl+F finds linked text. On RC1.

Are they not going to put the blur underneath the "glass" in these things?:

Where do I get the builds with all that eye-candy incorporated into it? Are those tryserver builds or others?

I'm a little disappointed since the doorhanger style download manager and other stuff is not going to make it into Fx4.

"Are We Pretty Yet?"... Psssh! Yeah right!

Annoyances

Title is not displayed in the title bar

Extensions are broked (but this is expected)

edit: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/titlebar-text/

The title bar text seems unnecessary given two reasons: the FF window is likely to be maximized for majority of the time so you won't see it and the tab title text is already sufficient.

When I have multiple tabs on I can't read the titles. Just the first word or so. Its annoying as hell. Also, I don't have tabs on top.

My new annoyance is that that bookmarks don't open in a dropdown menu. I find the new UI overall annoying. Makes everything much more difficult to use. It looks pretty, but I don't want to handicap usability for looks.

edit: I give up, re-enabling the menu bar.

Personal Titlebar

right click -> customize-> find Title Bar text-> grab and put it wherever you please

You can always ask first.

I'm trying to get multi-row bookmark toolbars to work with Firefox 4 RC Build 1. Can someone try this stylish and confirm that it works? http://userstyles.org/styles/29428 Can you add any bookmark/rss feed to multiple toolbars? For example, could I have my Livemarks (RSS Feeds) on one toolbar, then bookmarks on another right below it? Is there a limit to how many toolbars you can have? Let me know. Thanks!

The icon disappears as when I hit the Done button.

It's because you have the bookmarks toolbar enabled. If you have it enabled, the 'dropdown' will be on the far right of your bookmarks bar.

With all due respect, why don't you try that stylish yourself?

    • Microsoft confirms a new, useful Teams' app is coming very soon by Sayan Sen In the modern digital workspace meeting recordings and summaries are very commonplace, still finding the right recap later can be surprisingly difficult. To address that inconvenience Microsoft is working on a new dedicated meeting recap application designed to bring all meeting recaps into a single, centralized location. In a recent announcement on its Microsoft 365 roadmap website, the company has confirmed the new applet and has explained how the new experience will work and why it believes it can help users stay on top of discussions without having to search through multiple chats, calendars, or files. For those unfamiliar, meeting recaps provide a summary of key discussions, decisions, action items, and other relevant information generated after a meeting ends. They are intended to help participants revisit important points while also allowing those who missed the meeting to quickly catch up on what happened. Traditionally locating older recaps could require users to navigate through various conversations or meeting histories. The new meeting recap app aims to simplify that process by gathering all available recaps into one dedicated hub. According to Microsoft, this should make it easier to browse past meetings, review outcomes, and stay informed about ongoing projects and discussions. One notable feature of the applet is the addition of quick filters which are meant to allow users to instantly narrow down the list of available recaps and surface specific meetings without manually searching through extensive records. Audio recap is also there. If you're wondering how long these recaps will last before self-expiring, the app will provide access to meeting recaps from the past 30 days or approximately one month. You can view the feature entry here on the official Microsoft 365 (M365) website under roadmap ID 564614. Its rollout is set to begin this month (June 2026). Do keep in mind though that new feature rollouts often get delayed.
    • Does it have couch co-op is the question I have here.
