Ethernet Controller Registry Corrupt/WinSock Xp Fix Not Working..

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

This is my first post on this forum.I'm facing a typical problem for which I need your urgent help.

I have XP(SP3) and Win 7 Ultimate Edition.

On XP..everytime I boot ,I get a Destination Host Unreachable error when I ping my DNS Server IP(172.16.0.1)...and as a result I'm not able to access Internet(Page Cannot be Displayed)...I have a DSL Cable 256kbps Unlimited static IP connection.

When I run WinsockxpFix(as suggested by Google),it does what its programmed to do and then it reboots my machine...

I login into XP and then I reconfigure my LAN Settings(put the IP,Subnet Mask,Gateway,DNS,Alternate DNS values) and then Internet works fine..When I ping the DNS (ping -t 172.16.0.1),I get the usual replies....

However, the moment I restart XP,I get the same Destination Host Unreachable error when I ping DNS and I have to repeat the cycle mentioned above to get my Internet connection working...

Here's the results of ipconfig/all:

Added to this, on Device Manager I find that there are four entries under the Network Adapter Tab and two of them have an Exclamation Mark beside them(my motherboard has two LAN Cards).

When I went to the properties tab it says that the Registry entry for those two particular Ethernet Device may have been corrupted...I tried to uninstall them. But Windows gives a message saying "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be needed to boot up the computer"..have attached a screenshot.

Is this the reason for the problem stated above??

I'm really getting very frustrated about this as I cant seem to get a solution anywhere.

I really need a working Internet connection on XP as all my major work(photo editing)is done there only (I'm a serious amateur photographer).

Hope I have been able to clearly state my problem.

Please help me out folks.

Thanks in advance
