Deleting a folder from within inetpub

Windows 2008, SP2 all latest patches. I cannot delete a folder from within the inetpub folder on the C drive. I have taken ownership, Replaced permissions etc etc and it still says I don't have permission to delete the folder. I was reading on the internet there was a problem with the TrustedInstaller account, I stripped out the permissions for this. I have even turned off UAC.

Any ideas???

Have you stopped IIS? Perhaps it has a lock on the folder.

Yeah I stopped IIS (Web Publishing) - Still Couldn't delete it.

Budman - User Created Folder through IIS I think.

I had this problem too, but disabling IIS helped, not sure what the problem of yours is.

Just for reference how did you disable IIS? I just stopped the World Wide Web Publishing Service.

"iisreset /stop" and "iisreset /start" to start it back up. There's more than just the WWW Publishing Service for IIS. Though usually just an iisreset will release everything.

This might be worth a go:

download handle.exe from ms, run handle.exe from the command line with name of the folder and it will tell you what process is locking it. kill the process and you should be able to delete it.
