Flash and html hybrid.

Question

I saw this template and was really impressed with it:

http://www.templarts.com/kit-graphique/science/21352FR.html

However, the template is a complete Flash site, and due to efficiency and speed issues, i would require the following things:

1. The buttons and hyperlinks to be in flash

2. The banner be in flash ( or animated ).

3. The rest of the contents be simple html/css.

Is this design feasible? Also, i would like to know the quickest/easiest way of creating those hyperlinks menus(software or any online tool).

Any flash website can be recreated entirely in HTML and CSS3. As far as the main nav effects, you'll probably want to look into jQuery and look through plugins to get it just how you want it.

Now for the design itself.. it's pretty outdated, something I'd have expected from 2002-05. Take a look at themeforest perhaps?

1. The buttons and hyperlinks to be in flash

Wow, really? Why?

The template represents nothing that cannot be achieved equally well in HTML and jQuery. And as such you would reach a larger audience and keep it accessible.

But I'd argue that the over-use of animation makes the site look dated and cheap - rather keep the style of the navigation but tone down the animation (again using HTML and jQuery).

You are kidding right? Get this done with html/css3 (which by the way is not supported in IE which is the most used browser)

http://thinkingspace.economist.com/ or

http://www.infiniteturtles.co.uk/projects/away3d/demos/hacienda/BSPImportTest.html or whatever 3d demos you can find.

On the topic, do it enterely in html/css (not 3)/javascript

LOL I should say the same to you "Are you f'n kidding me?"

For what it's worth, CSS3 ~is~ supported in IE9 and using other methods can be "supported" in lower versions. If you're going to make a rather facetious comment about me kidding, why not do some research first. Kthx.

While it's not full support, you do have some basic CSS3 support for text-shadow, border-radius, and box shadow.

Oh and in case you don't stay up-to-date with CSS3 and it's support in browser, I can help:

Oh yeah (text-shadow, border-radius, and box shadow) extends CSS to all flash content. Man I've been writing html/css/js and doing flash for 10+ years so i know what I'm talking. You can not go to a client and say - hey I'll do you a great site that will work in 20% of the browsers and will look like crap in others. I don't want to start another flame war on that. In the topic's author case it is best to use html/css/js but please don't summarize that "Any flash website can be recreated entirely in HTML and CSS3" i just gave you two websites you can not do even with current 3d transformations in webkit.

Any flash website can be recreated entirely in HTML and CSS3

100% disagree with the quote, 100% agree with your assumed sentiment.

Yes, CSS3 + jQuery can replace a lot of the frills that Flash brings us, and can also surpass some of what Flash is useful for...

But 100%? Come on, not even remotely true.

However, with the examples the dude above gave - no reason for such weird interfaces! As such, they don't represent "your average website" to me, and do not figure into the argument. That said, I bet you could make a damned good replica in CSS3 + HTML. But then it would be less cross-browser compliant. And then, then again, Flash is a plugin...

Examples were given just to show the big gap between flash vs css3/js/html current state. Those interfaces are impossible to be done in css3/js way since there is not enough horsepower in those (you can check mrdoob's 3d experiments http://mrdoob.com/lab/javascript/three/particles/random.html == 9fps)

I should state: Any flash website that can be static content, can rendered entirely in HTML(5)/CSS3/JS.

Your "examples" of 3D animation--where does that fit in with a website? That's all fine and dandy to utilize in flash but I fail to see how that example disproves my comment about "any flash website."

Where in that screenshot do you see anything that can't be replicated with HTML/CSS (or HTML5/CSS3)?

You can not go to a client and say - hey I'll do you a great site that will work in 20% of the browsers and will look like crap in others. I don't want to start another flame war on that.

If you've been doing this for so long, then you'd know that just because you can create a compliant HTML5/CSS3 website for current browsers, doesn't mean it'll "look like crap in others."

To me that just says you don't know much about developing websites to be cross-browser compatible..

I think you're just taking that comment I made out of context. Obviously there will be elements that are going to require another form of "animation" so to speak. But the entire website? No reason for an entire website to be entirely made of flash. Interactive graphics? When would graphics be remade with front end code? Never.

Like this example: http://ts3.trefl.com/

The only thing that's in flash is the interactive graphic for Toy Story 3 but otherwise the rest of the site is 100% HTML/CSS. That's what my comment you quoted is referencing.

or: http://www.bmw.com/

The splash page only has the animated header in flash. The rest of the options are HTML/CSS.

http://www.bmwusa.com/Default.aspx

Again, same concept here.. Although they're using a carousel that could easily be replaced by jQuery (or any other library).

There will be some flash websites out there that people have gone nuts with various sound effects, visual effects and other bloat that it would not fit within the scope of the "every website" comment I made. But as far as "most" other flash based, damn near 100% give or take! :p

    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues.
