How to Use- Tweak NT,lets u use xp prog on win2003

Recommended Posts

What it does: Makes your computer think your using Windows XP home. Allows you to install ANY windows xp compatible software.

Method:TweakNT! I had to format my system 5 times...COMPLETE FORMAT

BUT YOU NEED ONE SIMPLE COMPLETE FORMAT-COMPLETE FORMAT, not simple quick format...install Windows 2003 Server

....and then configure a new user with Auto-logon, then disable the CTR+ALT+DEL key use so u dont have to use that to logon...then do the tweak to activate to Home XP. When u restart u get an activation screen. Go to Telephone Activation and then goto Remind LATER. Thats it - it should get you to your desktop and all settings will remain active - server settings with workstation. only change will say ur computer in Wind XP Home...goto HELP and Support and u can see that its still Win 2003 Server ...now all this is successful with Server 2003 Trial Version - available from Microsoft for free...never tried the retail one!

But why not turn it into Windows XP Professional ?

Btw anyone that does not know how to use TweakNT really shouldnt be using a Server OS anyway ;) they should indeed be using XP Home lol.

Well it doest make a difference whether its XP HOME OR PRO when u use ntswitch....i used to convert to home and it worked but i dont have the guts to try professional and then make a mistake again and have to format my system another few times. im happy with what i have.

As for working on trial...read what i said above and itll work fine. works perfectly with the trial. thats what i have...it works wonders!

It worked on my XP pro with SP1 quite good. I converted the system into a Advanced server (.net server). Surprising to find that the system performance increased noticebly. the hardware benchmarks did not show improvement but the system reativity increased.

Anybody knows why the same system works faster under .net advanced server but slower in xp sp1 pro. :)

wel if u convert XP Pro to advanced server, i really dont think theres much a system performance increase...all its supposed to do is make your computer think its a server . THE MINUS POINT: It may not let you instal XP compatible softwares from now on which ARE NOT compatible with 2003 server! That may hamper your system operations because already XP installed programs which are not compatible with Advanced Server may cause massive glitches and cause problems.

try installing an XP compatible program that IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH A SERVER....im sure it wont work...as for games...games are supposed to work with server's anyways...programs that run on xp and not on servers...try installing those..they shouldnt let u install them to my testing.

the TweakNT method does allow you to install some programs that wouldn't otherwise work on a server such as partition magic and norton antivirus. However microsoft software that is not designed to work on server, such as intellitype software doesn't work as microsoft software checks properly which operating software is in use. Games aren't designed to run on servers, what happens is that companies that make software like norton antivirus make versions to run on workstations and seperate server versions which often cost in excess of 10 times more than their workstation equivalent. In order to stop people using the far cheaper workstation version on a server they add a check to their software to prevent it running on a server. They would work fine on the server, they just don't want them to.

it's not just microsoft software that knows what the OS really is, it's the windows installer. any program that uses the windows installer has the option of installing on only specific versions of windows (like other installers) but the windows installer checks version numbers, and the home/pro/server status as well, while other installers do not.

Download or find TweakNT. And convert ur 2003 server to think its windows home edition and then install any Xp compatible program (like Norton 2003 or 2004 beta) or anything...and it works..after u install ur programs...if u dont like the Home Edition screen u get, just use tweaknt to turn back to windows 2003 server and ur program will continue working. simple as that....

Question from people : why not convert to windows xp pro? - Answer: 90% of the time it doesnt work on most computers

Does it work on the trial version? Answer - if you have already disabled ctr+alt+delete and have an automatic login script so that u dont get asked ur username and password to login...then yes...after u run tweak nt it will ask u to activate windows again...GO TO Telephone...then goto...REMIND LATER...and your done!!!

Everything works...pre-tested on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition - TRIAL VERSION!

lucky you. i got the blue-screen followed by ccomputer restarts when i tried converting to xp pro. i had to format my laptop all over again.

when i did it to home xp havent had a problem since....but then again....i decided to stick to xp home(original license) cuz win 2003 doesnt support my inbuilt infra-red device and xp suits me well enough...i use hibernate instead of shutdown so i dont have to go through slow boot processes.

plus xp is pretty stable since i dont use any high memory usage programs either.

Does this conversion works on Windows Server 2003 Corporate Edition??

Because I've tried to convert a working installation of Server 2003 an I got an error with product Activation saying I had a Product ID don't matching my product.

Any ideas??

No. It only works correctly for the retail version.

it does work on the trial too. ive done it and so have people at msfn - they have a 20 page tutorial on how its done...its pretty easy but long time taking...cuz if u fail once then u gotta format ur drive again...and start from scratch.

Yeah, Trial and Retail versions work fine (most of the time)

Corp version gives you the 2 finger solute on logon. ;)

The changes are mostly cosmetic yeah, but like someone was saying it does fool some programs enough to make them install when otherwise they wouldnt have. Worth a play but i really question the stability of the OS after such major registry changes, especially running an AV program that isnt designed for the OS in question. Let us not forget that Windows 2003 has some slight kernal changes, might make the AV program improperly detect virus's... :/

    • New Outlook for Windows landing in Microsoft 365 Education accounts next January by Paul Hill Microsoft has announced that from January 2026, Microsoft 365 Education users will be able to switch to a “modern, AI-powered” Outlook for Windows. The Redmond giant said that a new toggle will show up for eligible users that will let them decide whether to run classic Outlook or the new Outlook for Windows. The new version, Microsoft said, brings numerous improvements including more streamlined communication, features to boost your productivity, and more ways to personalize your experience. As this update is coming to Microsoft 365 Education accounts, it means it’ll affect both students and teachers. The refreshed interface more deeply integrates with Microsoft 365 Copilot to deliver: smarter email and calendar management with features such as Pinning and Snoozing; personalized themes that match your style and preferences; and Copilot-powered assistance to help you draft, summarize, and organize your emails and appointments. Microsoft is obviously keen for users to switch over to the new interface when it's available to foist AI on you. However, if you are reticent about using these AI tools, you can always revert back to the classic Outlook for Windows, at least for a while after the new version is released. The new toggle will begin rolling out globally next January. Before then, Microsoft 365 Education users will get in-app notifications ahead of the change to prepare them, and educational organizations will have the power to opt out or manage the experience through administrator settings. While most Microsoft 365 Education users will get the toggle, there are some exceptions. These include: organizations that have opted out of automatic migration; users with perpetual licenses; on-premises account holders; and devices where the toggle is hidden via policy. The upcoming changes will not require any administrative action during the rollout. Microsoft says administrators, if they want to, can notify users about the upcoming change; update their internal documentation; and review the documentation for Admin control over migration. The firm said that after the rollout, policy controls will become available through Group Policy Objects (GPO), Cloud Policy, and Intune. In terms of compatibility with other platforms, the new Outlook for Windows will be compatible, including with Mac. Users will still be able to access their accounts normally through the Outlook app available for macOS or via the Outlook web app.
    • Might be a joke to a shortsighted person, but that's the minimum for ANY EV to be as reliable and hassle-free as my '12 Highlander Hybrid. Sure my Hybrid gets even less at 372mi (in the winter) - 455mi (in the summer) on a tank, but at least I can refill it for another 372mi-455mi in merely 10 minutes or less without ANY of the following worries: Without all of that peace of mind, an EV will require 800mi/charge to give similar peace of mind for me. I ain't buying and worrying about separate vehicles just for city commuting and long road trips. That's a total waste of cash IMO. My Highlander Hybrid perfectly suits both use cases, and for any EV to be worth my consideration, they'll have to suit them too. Maybe for you that solely resides in 1 city and never travel by road it makes no sense, but for anyone with experience of traveling across cities here in Canada, it makes total sense given the long distances. I ain't suddenly adding another 1hr to my road trip just for EVs, mere coffee and snacks suffice for my trips (~800km), and those certainly don't take me 1hr.
    • Microsoft will reportedly hit Xbox division with a massive wave of layoffs soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe It was only a few days ago that a report came out regarding a mass layoff wave at Microsoft. While that report only mentioned sales staff that were to be affected, now, another report has landed that mentions the company's Xbox gaming division being another layoff target. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Microsoft has another major round of layoffs planned for the Xbox division as it reorganizes the company ahead of the new fiscal year. This unfortunate news for many staff will be announced as soon as next week, per the report Bloomberg has gained the information from sources that had asked not to be named, who had said that managers inside Xbox are already expecting the job cuts to take effect soon. While no specific developers, divisions, or numbers were mentioned, "substantial cuts" are reportedly incoming as a part of this change. The gaming division of Microsoft has gone through multiple layoff waves in recent years. Late 2024 saw 650 jobs being cut from Xbox corporate and supporting teams. Earlier in the same year, over 1,900 staff from Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox development teams were let go from Microsoft. Microsoft has released a number of high-profile first games as of late, including Doom: The Dark Ages, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and is also pursuing a multi-platform strategy that has Xbox games releasing on PlayStation platforms. It has also confirmed next-gen Xbox hardware is now in development and recently unveiled a first-ever official Xbox handheld initiative. If the latest report turns out to be accurate, we should have an official announcement sometime next week. Microsoft's current fiscal year is slated to end on June 30.
    • LibreOffice is fine for individual use, but its collaboration tools are far behind Office 365.
    • First thing I wondered as well. I miss the old color. I always thought it was nice how each app had its own color. Then they go and take 2 of the most commonly used apps and give them the same color.
