Replaing HTC Touch Diamond with HTC Magic or Dream

My Touch Diamond Broke and the only phones they can replace with with under the warranty are the Magic or Dream.

Which one should I get? What are the differences?

One thing I didn't like was my Diamond didn't have a storage card slot, only 4 GB internal memory. Do the magic or dream have Micro SD Slots (That can read SDHC), Internal Storage, or both?

Also I still an reliant on Windows Mobile, is there a way to run WM on Magic or Dream, because I ran Android on my Diamond...

They both say "microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible)" is SD2.0 SDHC? So will my 6GB SDHC work? If I get this phone and buy a 32 GB Micro SD, would that work?

Also, I have 3 Batteries for my Touch Diamond, will they work in these phones?

I have an iPAQ rz1710, could I connect to the Magic/Dream and get internet on that (I used to have a 4100 iPAQ and was able to access my mobile broadband over Bluetooth, but I don't know if the rz1710 has Bluetooth). I have an SDIO Wifi Card for my rz1710 so could I use Wifi to access my Magic/Dream's connection?

It certainly looks like microSD 2.0 is SDHC so a 6GB card will work as will a 32GB. As for the batteries i'm not sure they will but someone else might know more. The HTC Magic could be used as a modem for the iPAQ via Bluetooth but as for accessing the phone via WiFi that wouldn't work.

Not sure why you would want to run WinMo on it though, I used to have a WinMo device and found the Desire extremely easy to setup in the same way.

Is there some programs that you NEED WinMo for or did you just find it easier to use?

I agree with Neo on going with the Magic, for the same reason. I believe T-Mobile sells that device as the myTouch 3G in the US and if so, I'm pretty sure you can only install apps to the actual device itself, not the expandable memory slots. If they're willing to give you either, that alone would convince me to go with the Magic. ;)

(and yes, SD 2.0 is SDHC, both in the normal SD size and the microSD version so your 32GB card should work fine.)

There are apps I need for Windows Mobile. First is one to download Youtube Videos as FLV and pull out the MP3 from them. The only ones I found use MP4. On my Diamond I used Youtube Play, it would download Youtube Videos and Ask me to extract the audio as MP3, if I said no I could always do it afterhand.

Another is TCPMP, that played every video I threw at it (with plugins), FLV, MP4, Avi (It could play DivX in theory if my phone had enough resources, but it lagged).

I think I like the way the Dream Looks better, or that might just be the color... Also the dream has a keyboard, but my Diamond didn't, it might be nice to have but maybe I don't need it. I liked this OSK for Windows Mobile where I would use my Stylus:

Do they Magic/Dream take Styluses or only accept input from fingers?

Interesting to see the Touch Diamond and Dream both use a Qualcomm MSM7201A Processor 528 MHz, I am assuming the MSM7200A (Magic) is better?

Another thing is that the screen for Magic/Dream uses a lower Resolution than the Diamond, but they are bigger. (Kinda like my old iPAQs, having bigger screens with lower resolution). These seem to be a jump up from the iPAQs...

I wonder how surfing the internet would be on these, with the lower Resolution and a different browser. Could I get Opera Mobile on there? EDIT: http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/htc/magic/ Looks like I can't :(

TBH, I haven't had the Desire for very long but others here might be able to recommend alternatives for those applications.

As for the the processors, they both run at the same speed, 528MHz, so it won't matter what one you get.

You can get a stylus for them but they are a special version for capacitive touchscreens.

Browsing the internet is not to bad as the capacitive touchscreen makes scrolling and zooming a lot easier, as easy as swiping or pinching on the screen.

I heard that you can't rate a processor solely on the clock rate.

Also is there a way to control the phone from a computer while it's plugged in, so that way if I am on my computer I don't have to pick up my phone to send text messages, check the battery life, etc...

Does this phone USB Charge and how does it connect (Does it appear as a Standard Flash Drive or something else, I hear something about HTC Sync...)

Both processors are fabricated by Qualcomm, so it really won't matter which phone you get.

I'm not sure, there might be an app available to do that but i'm not entirely sure.

The phone will charge over USB and will prompt you for which mode you want to put it in when you connect it to a PC. HTC Sync is only required if you want to sync with Outlook (AFAIK Outlook 2010 isn't currently supported) and install apps via the PC.

EDIT:The processors use a different fabrication process, the MSM7200A uses a 90nm process, the MSM7201A uses a 65nm process. This is most likely to be an effort to reduce heat.

So you are saying if two processors are made by the same company then you can use clock rate to compare them?

Well, the only thing to compare the processors on is the fabrication process as they both run at the same clock speed anyway.
