That's certainly interesting. Although I wonder what the correlation is between Schick razors and Gran Turismo 5. Are people with manly beards more likely to play a racing sim?

Probably to try and steal some thunder from Gillette... plus Gillette are usually too busy chasing after Tennis Players or what not to sell their products.

As for why shaving razers, they're bought in the thousands on a daily basis and the market for racing is mostly male (generalized).

That's true. I suppose the promotion struck me as odd precisely because it's so unorthodox. We're used to seeing razor commercials involving [insert professional athlete here].

As for Sony Australia's "guarantee", I'm hoping it's true. I plan on playing the crap out of this during my Christmas break (or at least I did until the delay), so hopefully it doesn't get pushed into 2011. If I had to bet money, I would bet on a 2010 release, personally.

It'll come out this year, but I'll be pretty ticked off if it's the 23rd of December or something.

End of November is fine by me, with the date announced before the end of this month.

No idea what's going on with OPM, they supposedly have the worlds first review in print the 28th of this month. Need to see if that's still planned.

Gran Turismo 5 won't be home for Christmas?

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/21/gran-turismo-5-wont-be-home-for-christmas/

Gran Turismo 5 continues to tantalize while enraging keeping us waiting with bated breath, for that one day when we can place the disc into our Playstation 3. The game was supposed to be released on November 2nd, but an announcement on the US Playstation blog said it was pushed back... again. The only clue to the new release date was that it would be available this holiday season.

What does that mean exactly? Apparently it means that you will have to shake off your hangover and pick up a copy of the game on New Years Day... or Eve... or the day after New Years Day. Honestly, we're not entirely sure and we don't think Polyphony Digital is either. Best Buy, Gamestop and Amazon.com have updated their respective pre-order pages to reflect a new release date. Amazon.com lists 12/31/10, Gamestop has 01/01/11 and Best Buy shows a date of 01/02/11. For some reason, Target believes the game will be available on November 1st, which is awfully hopeful. Wal-Mart has apparently given up listing a release date, which may be the wisest move of all. Thanks for the tip, Billfred!

Play.com sent me an email stating that it wouldn't be getting it on the 5th and that they currently don't have a release date. I would suggest that those are all place holders till they hear otherwise.

Game say it is sometime in December (12/2010). :)

It's the 27th in the magazine, but the dates that they say in the mag are not always correct. Sometimes it is a week late. :)

Sorry for the double post but I got OPM UK today and found some stuff out about GT5. Firstly the editor Ben Wilson said this in his colomn:

However' date=' keen-eyed readers will notice that the Gran Turismo 5 review we promised last month is missing. As we approached deadline Polyphony Digital was still tuning the game, so we made the call to postpone the piece until ned month. Sorry. It was a tough decision, but the right one. Look out for it in issue #52 instead.[/quote']

Then two pages along (page 9 issue 51):

Anything is possible, and I hope it does happen.w00t.gifyes.gif

no, because they already said no novemeber release.

Then it seems strange that advert was put in a magazine that was released today (see previous page), especially since we have known about the delay for ages. It's not like Official Playstation Magazine have had no notice to pull the ad and replace it with another one. :)

The replay video looks amazing, the release can't come soon enough now!

I thought that the whole X1 Prototype video was amazing. Looking forward to it. :)

More news on the Release Date:

Sony Australia Hints at GT5?s New December Release Date

On October 6th, Sony launched a giveaway competition for a free Gran Turismo 5: Signature Edition package. Since that time, the competition was set to end on the old Australian release date, November 4th. That end date has remained unchanged (confirmed by Google?s cache) ? until now. The legal terms and conditions have just been quitely updated to list a new ending date of December 9th.

I will be first to remind you this is not an official announcement or confirmation of a new release date for Gran Turismo 5. However, it is the first specific new date related to the game which has been found on any Sony website, and December 9th is a Thursday. Australia?s old date, November 4th, is also a Thursday ? the day of the week typically reserved for big video game releases Down Under.

Assuming Sony plans to keep the same sequential worldwide release schedule for GT5, we could estimate a December 8th release in Europe/Japan and a December 7th release in North America. Obviously, these dates are also a Wednesday and Tuesday ? the same as the original November dates. Furthermore, these dates fall at the tail end of Sony?s internal release date window, provided to me by a trusted source shortly after the delay was announced.

As you may recall, Sony was quick to reassure us the game would arrive ?this holiday season? and announced they ?expect? to confirm a new date before the end of October. Time is running out, as there are only two weekdays left in October as of writing ? let?s hope the updated terms of this contest are an early indication the veil is about to be lifted.

Thanks to GTPlanet?s sharp-eyed reader GTR12 for picking this up!
