[Official] Xbox Live Summer of Arcade 2010

Looks as though it'll be a test run during Summer of Arcade. Maybe why other regions aren't getting it for now.

Once Summer of Arcade is over no one can use it. Clearly they didn't spend all this time just to use the app for 4 weeks and then forget about it.

Update 1:10pm: Major Nelson told Shacknews, "If you have downloaded it, it will continue to work." But that still hasn't answered the question of why it will only be available for a month.

Am I the only one that is really underwhelmed with the titles in this year's Summer of Arcade? Limbo is the only game that I have an even remote interest in. Compared to last year where I got Shadow Complex, 'Splosion Man and Trials HD and they were no-brainers.

I don't think I've got an XBLA game since Portal: Still Alive or Worms 2, whichever came out more recently.

Yeah last year really spoiled us.

I think what's off putting this year is the price. I would like to buy Lara Croft & Castlevania but they're not worth ?10 to me.

To me, depending on the length of it and how much extra there is to do along with the main quest, I'd be quite happy with the price for Lara Croft.

Castlevania however I am unsure of, mostly recycled sprites, and I'm not sure how much there is going to be to the game.

If I had to guess they will use this as a means to test and get feedback on the new UI changes they are implementing and after the month is up they will put the parts that work into the NXE interface proper at some point in the future. That makes the most sense to me as continuing to have a second layered on UI seems pointless and stupid TBH. I mean NXE is good, but it could use a few tweaks to make it more efficient (a nice search option would be a start).

After reading what Ars Technica said about Limbo, it's a day one purchase for me. I'll be sure to offer up my impressions once I play it, but it looks amazing for sure.

Besides, after playing through Red Dead Redemption and a little bit of Forza 3, I'm in the mood for a game like this now.

EDIT: Even Jim Sterling couldn't find anything bad to say about Limbo. That's an accomplishment if there ever was one :).

I got Limbo today (really excited for this game) and i finished it in a sitting which i was expecting but the entire game from start to finish was brilliant. Shame only a couple of the puzzles were actually difficult though. Still i will definitely play it again to see if i can get all the hidden eggs/orbs.

yeah Limbo is pretty nice, very unique although from the Lucidity demo i played the similarity is definitely there. awesome release though, very touching, i found myself slightly weepy a couple of time when playing it for the first time...

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.

    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂
