Milo's always been one of the more interesting demonstrations of Kinect's potential; apparently, that's all it will ever be.

Speaking on ABC TV's Good Game, Xbox boss Aaron Greenberg said Peter Molyneux's mildly creepy virtual son probably won't ever come out to play.

"Milo; he's safe and sound back in England. No? the Milo Project is something that Lionhead Studios in their labs had developed. Last year we unveiled the Project Natal technology, we showed a bunch of technology demos as part of that," he explained.

"And obviously [Milo] is a technology demo that continues to exist, but right now it's not a game that we're planning to bring to market."

Molyneux told VG247 that we'll be seeing more of Milo and his gal pal Kate next month. From the sound of things, though, we'll only be seeing ? not touching (or flailing in the general direction of, as it were).

'Technology demo' probably meaning pre-recorded BS again.

That is how ms (and Sony) roll. They need to record stuff for e3 so it doesn't f up. At least we know the tech is there and it works.

When Sony showed the Move controller last year nothing was pre-recorded hence the "this demo looks like a quick knocked up science project". Then again nothing this year was pre-recorded hence Tiger Woods screwing up.

Natal/Kinect has been followed with pre-recorded demos, the fact Milo isn't even coming into any fruition is hilarious considering how bonkers everyone went over it last year and it's now just a "tech demo"

Natal/Kinect has been one huge over-promise and when the tech came into a reality it couldn't stand up.... well maybe the correct term is it couldn't sit down laugh.gif

Why would they release something like Milo anyways? It's not a "game" so how would you sell it as one? It's a "tech-demo", MS does loads of them each year at different MSR events. The only ones making a big deal out of this are the haters out there.

Sony and MS have both done prerecorded demo's on E3 stage, making it appear to be live over the years. They also have both shown live stuff, as proven by lag in both Kinect games and Move games. I loved the live debut of Peter Moore playing Rockband for MS....Epic fail.

Move and Kinect are both huge over-promises. As for the tech in Milo, it works and it's being used to show developers what Kinect is capable of.

They never said it was a game. What they did say was...

Molyneux: Milo plays a bigger role in ?a more dramatic story?

February 24th, 2010 @ 11:42

By Johnny Cullen

Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has revealed there might just be more to Milo & Kate than first imagined.

The creative director of Microsoft Games Studios Europe told IncGamers the poster child of Project Natal?s reveal at E3 last June will play a part in ?a bigger and more dramatic story?.

?I was very, very tight about what was actually being said about Milo and not being said about Milo. I think it did its job,? he said.

?It made people look around and say ?How could you make a game out of a character like Milo?? And I think that question is still out there; I?m just not allowed to answer it.

?I might hint? Milo is a character in a bigger and more dramatic story that we?re telling,? he further added.

Not much has been said of Milo and Kate since its reveal at E3. Molyneux confirmed at Microsoft?s press conference at gamescom last August it was still in development.

And in October, a video of a demo of the title was put online during a BAFTA session Molyneux did at the time.

Since then, nothing has been heard of it; until now

That and Peter Molyneux is up to something...

Molyneux mentions something about ?super secret project?

March 3rd, 2010 @ 15:12

He?s back! Six shot Peter Molyneux has tweeted something very interesting while updating his Twitter for the day.

The Lionhead boss said this:

?now back in the office reviewing the super secret project; I am excited to see what progress the team has made since Monday?

Looks like Microsoft PR are standing by to give him a large slap on the wrist, though.

?hummm just noticed I have an email maked important from PR, I think this could be to do with my Twitter Day, gulp i smell trouble?

This ?secret project? could be the unannounced project the studio advertised back in January, when job positions were listed for a project alongside Fable III and Milo & Kate.

GDC next week may give us a hint or two: he?s doing a session at the event for Fable III.

And last but not least... http://www.vg247.com/2010/01/11/job-listings-point-towards-third-unannounced-lionhead-game/

The knowledge they've gained from creating M&K will be used in Fable 3 iirc, but it also opens people's minds to new ways to use the tech besides Wii-like titles.

Not this again. The old days are coming back to the Gamers Hangout i see.

As AWBrian said, Microsoft AND sony always have had pre recorded e3 shows. Not only that, but how could milo become a game if Lionhead made it? Please explain why microsoft wouldnt make it with natal, but let Lionhead the maker of Fable to produce Milo as a game? They wont, its just a big Demo. Its obvious it was a demo. Its showing people the power of Natal and what it can do.

If it was going to be a game, we would of been able to tell by now. Either way, get over it. Sony AND Microsoft have had pre recorded e3 shows.

Move is a HUGE OVER PROMISE also because its nothing new. Its the damn wii controller plus head tracking. oOooO. Lets go out and pay $150 for the whole set to be able to move our heads and have them tracked! Other then that, its the perfect copy of the Wii. Except the WiiMote, in this case is rechargeable and the nunchuk or "joystik" is wireless and not wired to the controller.

Oh wow, such a big innovation. hmmm Controller free vs Controller motion? Ive always wanted motion game play to be controller free, because if i really wanted to use a controller i can sit down and use one.

@DM: Very nice find. Ill be reading a lot the next few minutes.

Milo did look like a tech demo to me... I think its just more of a demo to show what the future could hold for RPGs. I don't hold much faith in Lionhead implementing it amazingly in Fable 3 since Kinect isn't a system requirement, but I can imagine there being some mini-games or something that utilise it.

As much as I love Fable, I don't really listen too much to what Molyneux says because it often seems to get axed. Hopefully the super secret project is something using Kinect in the way Milo was used though. That could be an awesome game.

    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.

    • Dude, it's a .reg away from a permanent modification. If you're a power user, look it up and keep the .reg and stop being a crybaby expecting MS to include customization for everything on a generalist OS. The default is what's the best UX for the majority of the userbase, non techie people.
