Many people stated that Opera 10.6 is faster than Chrome.

But no mater how I tested, on 3 of my computers, Chrome still wins in peacekeeper. They recently won in sunspider for me.

Anyway, Chrome

Tested on:

Microsoft Windows 7 x64

Intel Core 2 Duo P300 2.26ghz

Nvidia Geforce G105M

4 gb DDR3

I got my version of Chromium here. (Today's build)

http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-xp/51609/mini_installer.exe

Opera seems to lose to Chrome nightly build now.

What's up with that? :p

Anyways I get less of a difference than you, with SunSpider being insiginficant.

Chrome - Opera

246.6ms +/- 0.9% 249.5ms +/- 0.5%

1% difference vs your 10%.

http://clients.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/results.action?key=3wNF

7% difference vs your 19%.

V8 bench is pretty much Chrome biased.

those scores don't tell you anything as every test is different as we have different hardware/software, you can claim your the fastest and yada yada yada with x this number and y this number but then again thats all it is is a number. the only true way to know is to try it yourself and pick a browser and if it meets your needs then stick to it as you have choice and choice is a wonderful thing as if you tire of one you can try another. also unfinished products/builds are not meant to be used outside of testing as you may encounter bugs/errors that have not been fixed/reported.

The speed difference is minimal.

I'll take Opera over Chrome any day for the security, which it wins hands down.

Oh really. Care to elaborate on how Opera is more secure than Chrome?

I do not know much, but why is Chrome less secure? I'm asking this purely out of interest. I do not want to start a flame war.

Also isn't firefox the most secure because of addons like Antisocial, Ghostery, Noscript, flashblock, Adblock plus, and Betterprivacy. Or are you talking about theoretical security. like vulnerabilities within the browser instead of tracking cookies and advertisements.

LOLS. I have no idea why someone copy this post. The sunspider well the funny thing is on my laptop there is a big difference. On my AMD Phenom 2 940 computer, they both did great but Opera lose by a bit only. Maybe Opera is not designed my my laptop cpu or something... V8 I agree with it. LOLS. That 1 lets just exclude it.

Here is a list of benchmark result done on my AMD Phenom 2 940 3ghz.

And I don't understand, why is Chrome security sucks?

Chromium 6 and Opera 10.6 were about neck and neck for me when I tested them last week.

Chromium has been too unstable for me lately though, so no matter how fast it gets I won't be using it until those problems are sorted.

Edit:

Nevermind, Opera isn't cooperating with Neowin all of a sudden either. I click on links or threads just to be greeted by a white page, and no matter what I do or how many times I refresh it just sits there. I opened up Chromium and it loaded right up.

I can't win...

Funny you should ask. A few days back, on my friend's pc, none of the website would load (on Chrome and IE6) while the messengers seemed to work without a glitch. I immediately ran a Spybot scan only to find some 18 malwares that were detected but couldn't be removed from the system. I upgraded to IE8 and voila, all web address resolved and loaded. Meanwhile, Chrome went unresponsive every time I tried using it. I went about uninstalling Chrome, and ran an Avira Scan which quarantined the malwares (or so it claimed). My friend loved IE8 instantly, and they're browsing safer than they were with Chrome.

Try clearing out your cache it usually helps, Opera is working fine for me on neowin. no problems at all..

Tiny market share so trying to find holes in it would be a waste of hackers time because there wouldn't be as many potential victims. Plus its close closed source so its harder to find holes than a browser those source code is widely available.

Well firstly, ask yourself why Opera has lower market share?

Its like avoiding the crowds because a terrorist might attack.

Open Source does not means lower security. As you stated, open source is easier to spot holes. Yes, therefore it will easier to patch too as developers don't have to search high and low for security holes. Better than to hide the holes and letting it remains.

And I don't see Internet Explorer doing better in security than Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome...

where has opera been, its been a while since a new build of opera 10.6 or 10.7 alpha has been released, maybe summer holiday?

Yeah, it's their holidays. That, and they're probably adding some new feature into another major version (either 10.70 or 11). See this tweet.

Usually when they go for more than two weeks without posting a weekly, they're preparing a significant addition other than the usual bug fixes.

Well firstly, ask yourself why Opera has lower market share?

Does it really? Maybe in North America, but in many countries, especially in Eastern Europe, its market share is claimed to be as high as 30-50%.

It's also easier for evil people to study the source code, and of course not publish their findings... How many people are reading the source code to find holes anyway?

And I don't see Internet Explorer doing better in security than Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome...

Don't forget the browser with the superior security track record, Opera, which is closed-source.

    • TeraCopy 4.0 Build 28 by Razvan Serea TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, also providing you with a lot of features. Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. Pause and resume transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. TeraCopy is free for non-commercial use only. For commercial use you need to buy a license. The paid version of the program includes the following features: Copy/move to your favorite folders. Save reports as HTML and CSV files. Select files with the same extension/folder. Remove the selected files from the copy queue. Features added since version 3.17: Enhanced speed graph. New multi-threaded copy engine. Support for copying to multiple targets. Queue system for managing multiple copy operations. Support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. TeraCopy entry in the modern Windows Explorer context menu. Integrated toolbar in the title bar. Why receive LocalSend transfers with TeraCopy? Handle file conflicts: Skip, overwrite, or rename files when a file with the same name already exists. LocalSend always creates another copy, which can waste time and disk space, especially when resuming an interrupted transfer. Filter unwanted files: Apply ignore lists or remove files manually before accepting a transfer, so unnecessary files are not downloaded. Better performance on fast networks: In tests over a 10 Gbps connection, TeraCopy received files several times faster than the standard LocalSend app on Windows. TeraCopy 4.0 Build 28 changelog: Fixed a bug where Overwrite behaved as Overwrite All during same-drive move operations. AdvancedInstaller fixed the installer’s security vulnerability: EXE Bootstrapper resolved the %appdata% location incorrectly for the System account.
