Now that the Microsoft KIN is dead...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Now that the Microsoft KIN is dead and with the Windows Phone 7 on the horizon; do you think that this app might replace the features of the KIN? I plan on buying a WP7, since I don't have Apple status symbol money and I'm a heavy user of social networking sites, with friends spread all across all the different portals, so I kind of need an app like this to save me a ton of time!

Tell me what you think!

Happy 4th of July!

You need an app that links all the social networking sites together?

Luckily they are already starting to do that themselves :p (Twitter > Facebook > Hyves) is what I use, and with the WLM Beta my WLM status updates are supposedly synced too, although that doesn't seem to work that well.

Edit: Welcome to Neowin ;)

Yep Windows Live Messenger Beta has has good intergration with Facebook and Twitter. I think you need to be running it on a PC to set up the permissions for sharing, but once it does all the updates appear to show on my phone as well.

Also, welcome Christine (Y)

Well I would think WLM would be part of Windows Phone 7. As for the social spot app, in a word, yes, I think it would be a great idea to support his idea. Having everything in one application (much like Trillian for the PC) is just easier on us people who love to social network.

Generally speaking thou, all good ideas should be supported :)

There is no reason you couldnt snap up a Kin on the cheap if it does what you need.

In any case the Kin team has been absorbed into the WP7 team. On launch I dont think you will see anything from whats been shown already but in future iterations I imagine you will see more 'Kin-ness' in the social networking aspects. The people hub of WP7 is designed so you can update all you status' at once and likewise see all where youre friends are at right from that hub. I believe when it was first demo'd it only supported facebook but that may change as inbound and outbound data for the other popular ones would make sense.

Certainly nothing stopping you supporting his app but I suspect you will see some great social network integration on WP7 regardless.

Well, I hope so! I like the features of the Kin, but not the Kin itself. I guess that's the reason why it is dead now!

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
