[Poll] iPhone 4 reception

Steve Jobs claims only some customers are experiencing this dropped signal problem..

I think that this mostly has to do with signal coverage. I have experienced the loss of bars due to the way I hold it maybe twice since I got mine a few days after the launch. The rest of the time I've been able to hold it in whatever way feels comfortable and get 4-5 bars. I haven't had issues with dropped calls, but then again I didn't have them with the 3GS.

I would imagine that if you live and work in those areas that are on the edge of coverage then it would be really annoying.

I have one and it drops the call with the so-called "death grip." However, I'm not really holding it tightly, I'm holding it comfortably the way I've always held a cell phone. Apple has lost a long time fan/customer with this fiasco. I will NEVER buy another Apple product ever again! :angry:

I have the issue, but it only drops down to one bar. I've never had it say no service. Still highly annoying, because I notice the data download speed takes a crap when the bars go down. I'll be waiting for a site to load, and it'll take forever. Then i see I'm touching the antenna, take my hand off, and the loading speeds back up. Say what you want Steve, none of my other phones ever failed that bad when I was holding it loading a webpage.

3G tends to cut out if I hold it in the death grip, but I've never had a call drop. If I squeeze the phone with the death grip (i.e. not hold comfortably), I can get the call to drop.

I'd like to note that I don't have very good reception around my house in the first place. The nearest cell tower is a good ways away.

Without my case, I've seen it go down to two bars when I hold it in my left hand but never had a dropped call so far. I usually get 4-5 bars in my home with O2.

i have a full body case (3rd party) and im right handed, I get dropped calls all the time. i live in a suburban area with mostly 5bars of 3G. I think I'm gonna return it tomorrow.

Since the new update (4.0.1) the bar only drops by one when holding it in the said manner and my 3G internet still seems to run ok, before I had issues, but now all seems fine, can't complain.

(Plus now I get a free bumper or case :p)

A poll really isn't necessary. It's not a question. The signal does degrade when holding it, especially in the right spot. However, to this day, I have yet to drop a call on my iPhone 4. This doesn't mean I'd vote no, because if I were in an area of lower signal, I'm sure it would. So I voted sometimes, which should be everyone's answer. It only drops if you're in an area of lower signal strength. If you have enough signal, it won't drop far enough to drop a call. For example, I have very good signal at my house. A full 5 bar signal, even on the new scale. When I hold mine in the trouble area, it drops to 3 bars, but no lower.

from what i gathered it was .55% reported to Apple, I gather not many actually called AppleCare, just took to blogs and forums, but I could be wrong

I dont have one :( had a 3g but lost it last night. getting a 4g friday. hell it comes with a free case. and I dont call really, unless its work :shiftyninja:

It does drop when I do the death grip, but it doesnt drop a call and I can still get calls which is the main thing....

I'm pleased to read apple are offering free cases. I experienced this problem more in the earlier days of having my iPhone 4 it's about 2 weeks old so maybe I've gotten used to the bars and how they display.

I'm in the lake district and I have 5 bars supposedly ? Which i find unbelievable I get 3-4 at home.

Data slow down, yes. But no droppage.

yes, but anyone can vote in this poll, you cannot guaruntee everyone who voted has an iPhone 4.
